Indicate for Visual Studio Code

Connect your development workflow to Indicate — AI-powered intelligence for software teams.

This extension registers an MCP server in VS Code, giving GitHub Copilot and other AI tools direct access to Indicate's capabilities.

Features

  • Automatic MCP registration — the extension registers the Indicate server with VS Code's MCP subsystem on startup.

Requirements

  • Visual Studio Code 1.101.0 or later
  • An Indicate API key — sign up at indicate-data.io if you don't have one

Getting Started

  1. Install Indicate from the VS Code Marketplace.
  2. When prompted, enter your Indicate API key.
  3. Open the Chat view (Ctrl+Alt+I) — Indicate tools are now available.

You can also set or update your key any time:

  • Open the Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P)
  • Run Indicate: Set API Key

Verify It Works

  1. Open the Chat view.
  2. Select the Configure Tools button.
  3. You should see tools from Indicate listed.

Commands

Command Description
Indicate: Set API Key Store or update your API key
Indicate: Remove API Key Delete the stored key

Privacy

  • Your API key is stored locally in VS Code's encrypted SecretStorage.
  • The extension connects only to industry.indicate-data.io — no other network calls.
  • No telemetry is collected by this extension.

Troubleshooting

Issue Fix
No tools appear in Chat Run Indicate: Set API Key to ensure a key is stored
"Server not started" Check the MCP output log: MCP: List Servers → Show Output
Wrong key Run Indicate: Set API Key to overwrite with the correct key
