Code Pals - Social Coding Activity

See what your friends are coding, right in your editor!

Code Pals brings a social dimension to your development workflow, inspired by Spotify's friend activity sidebar. Track your coding habits and see what your developer friends are working on in real-time.

This extension works in conjunction with the Code Pals platform.

Features

  • Automatic Activity Tracking: Monitors time spent coding, languages used, and files/projects you're working on.
  • Real-Time Friend Activity Sidebar: See what your mutual friends are currently coding:
    • Active file or project
    • Programming language in use
    • Time spent coding today/this week
  • Privacy First: Your coding activity is only shared with users you've mutually accepted as friends. You control who sees your activity.
  • (Coming Soon!) Social & Gamified Elements: Look forward to features like leaderboards, coding streaks, and badges to make coding even more engaging.

Getting Started

  1. Install the Extension: Get it from the VS Code Marketplace
  2. Create an Account: Sign up on the Code Pals website (You'll be prompted to sign up upon successfully installing the extension).
  3. Log In: Login with that account when prompted by the extension on launch, or click the login button in the panel.
  4. Add Friends: Send friend requests in the panel or accept incoming ones.

Privacy

We take your privacy seriously. Your coding activity is only shared with users you have explicitly added and mutually accepted as friends. You can manage your friend list and privacy settings through the web platform. No code contents are ever stored or shared.
