Stop writing long, confusing comments. Just speak! Dev Voice Comments allows you to record high-quality audio notes directly within your VS Code editor, helping you provide better context for complex code logic without cluttering your files with walls of text.
✨ Features
Hover Shortcuts: Hover over a @voice tag to play back audio or delete the comment.
Embedded Player: Listen to comments through a lightweight, built-in webview player.
Zero Configuration: Bundled with dependencies for Windows and Linux—no external software installation required.
🚀 How to Use
Note: Make sure you have a Project Folder (Workspace) open in VS Code. Voice comments are stored locally within your project to keep them synced with your code.
Open Command Palette: Press Ctrl+Shift+P.
Start Recording: Type Voice Comment: Record.
Record Your Comment: - Enter a Title for your comment.
Click Record and explain your code logic.
Click Stop when finished.
View in Code: A comment like // @voice: your-title.wav will be inserted at your cursor position.
Manage Comments: Simply hover over that line to Play ▶️ or Delete 🗑️ the comment.
📂 Storage & Privacy
All audio files are saved in a hidden .voice-comments/ directory at the root of your project. This ensures your voice notes stay with your project files and can be easily shared or backed up via Git.
⚠️ Requirements & Limitations
OS Support: Full support for Windows and Linux (macOS support coming soon).
Workspace Required: Currently only works inside a defined workspace/folder (does not work for single files opened in isolation).
