Koala Theme 🐨

"Ink on Paper" — A comforting, high-contrast light theme optimized for readability and focus.

No Folder In Action

📖 The Philosophy

Most light themes are either too harsh (pure white backgrounds) or too washed out (pastels on gray).

Koala is designed to mimic the aesthetic of a high-quality academic textbook. It uses a sophisticated "Deep Ink" palette that prioritizes strict readability and distinct visual hierarchy. It’s not just "light mode"—it’s a productivity tool for developers who work in bright environments or prefer high contrast.

🎨 Color Palette

Koala moves away from the "fruit salad" approach of modern themes in favor of a semantic tri-tone system:

  • Logic is Navy (if, function, return): Your code's structure stands out in Deep Navy Blue.
  • Data is Maroon ("strings", 123, true): Values are clearly separated in Rich Maroon.
  • Types are Earth Tones (Class, Interface): Object definitions use Forest Green and Bronze.
  • Variables are Ink (myVar): The subject of your code is pure Black, just like text on a page.

✨ Key Features

  • Paper-Like Background: Uses a calibrated Off-White/Grey (#dfdfdf) that reduces eye strain compared to pure white (#ffffff).
  • No Ambiguity: Distinct colors for Types vs Classes vs Variables.
  • Professional UI: A seamless "Unibody" interface with a white Title Bar and a professional Teal Status Bar.
  • Readable Debugging: The Debug Console and Terminal use custom deep colors instead of the standard neon ANSI colors, making logs easier to parse.
  • Subtle Highlights: Selection and UI highlights use translucent Navy and Ice Blue, ensuring text remains readable even when highlighted.

⚙️ Recommended Settings

To get the full "Textbook" experience, Koala looks best with Menlo and a slightly heavier font weight.

Add these to your settings.json:

{
  "editor.fontFamily": "Monaco",
  "editor.fontWeight": "600",
  "editor.lineHeight": 1.7,
  "editor.renderLineHighlight": "all"
}
