Get clear explanations of errors and stack traces without leaving VS Code. Select your error text, run Explain with Haze, and see what’s going wrong, the likely cause, and what to try next—with optional example fixes and related links.
How to use
Select (or copy) the error text, then run Explain with Haze from the context menu or with Ctrl+Shift+E (Windows/Linux) / Cmd+Shift+E (Mac).
In the editor — Select the error or stack trace, then right-click → Explain with Haze or use the shortcut.
In the Terminal, Problems, Output, or Debug Console — Select the text/output and copy it, then right-click → Explain with Haze or use the shortcut.
The explanation opens in a side panel. Use Copy explanation or Open full explanation on haze.no to copy or share.
Get started
You can try the extension without an API key: you get 3 free explains. After that, the extension will prompt you to sign up at haze.no and add an API key.
To use it beyond the 3 free tries:
Sign in at haze.no. If you don’t have an account, sign up (free tier includes a monthly allowance).
Open the profile menu (click “Signed in” in the top right) → API key → Create API key. Copy the key (you’ll only see it once).
In VS Code, open File → Preferences → Settings (or Code → Settings on Mac), search for Haze, and paste your key into Haze: Api Key.
You can also run Haze: Open API key settings from the Command Palette to jump straight there.
Usage is counted on your Haze account. Free accounts get a monthly allowance; you can subscribe for unlimited use at haze.no.
