PSGI Runner 1.0.0
Run a Plack/PSGI application (including Dancer2) from a compact VS Code sidebar.
Requirements
- VS Code 1.85 or newer (or compatible editor).
- Perl, Plack, and
plackup available in the workspace environment.
- A PSGI application entry point (default:
bin/app.psgi).
- Open a trusted project workspace; the extension executes the configured
plackup command.
Install
In VS Code choose Extensions → … → Install from VSIX… and select psgi-runner-1.0.0.vsix. For WSL, install in the WSL extension host and reload the window.
Controls
Start, Stop, Restart; Auto-reload (-r); Open browser on start; Show output on start; Settings.
All server stdout and stderr is captured in View → Output → PSGI Runner. The output channel is available whether or not the reveal checkbox is enabled. No task terminal is created.
Configuration
Workspace-folder settings: psgiRunner.psgiFile (bin/app.psgi), executable (plackup), port (5000), host (127.0.0.1), server (HTTP::Server::PSGI), environment (development), watchDirectories, autoReload, openBrowserOnStart, showOutputOnStart, perl5lib, extraArguments.
Example: plackup -s HTTP::Server::PSGI -E development -o 127.0.0.1 -p 5000 -r bin/app.psgi.
Notes
- On Linux and WSL, the extension starts a dedicated process group and signals it on Stop/Restart, to include reloader children. On Windows it uses
taskkill /T /F.
- The status indicates that the process has launched, not that HTTP readiness was confirmed.
- Changes to server arguments while running require Restart.
- The Output channel receives both stdout and stderr; their relative ordering is not guaranteed.
- Tested by the project maintainer in VS Code with a Dancer2 project under WSL.
