ReleaseLens AI

Generate real Android and web demo recordings from reviewed scenarios. Open the ReleaseLens sidebar, initialize the project, then choose Plan & generate demo. Select platform, PR, unverified commit range or verified deployment receipt, registered scenarios and narrated or silent output.

Requires VS Code 1.106+, FFmpeg 6+ and ffprobe on PATH. The extension uses VS Code's embedded Node runtime; standalone CLI/development requires Node.js 22+. Android also needs adb, Java 17+, Maestro, a booted emulator and a built APK. ReleaseLens: Set Up Tools checks prerequisites and can explicitly install pinned Chromium. Browser and media binaries are not embedded in the VSIX.

On Windows, portable Maestro can be launched without a shell: set RELEASELENS_MAESTRO_HOME to the extracted Maestro directory containing lib, and ensure Java 17+ is on PATH before launching VS Code. The CLI calls the official Java entrypoint directly.

Configuration and reviewed flow files live in the project. Initialize writes config, registry and example flows, opens the configuration for review, and refuses to overwrite existing files. Adapt the app ID, APK path, target URL and selectors before execution. Android generation offers a ready-emulator picker. Secrets are stored in VS Code SecretStorage. No deployment attestation is inferred from a PR merge.

The sidebar runs the same bundled CLI used in automation. Failed assertions preserve diagnostics and prevent a release video from being reported as successful. Narration uses your local system voice; silent output is also available. Local MP4 playback depends on the VS Code distribution's codec support; open the artifact in an external player if necessary.

Cancel through the progress notification or sidebar; capture cleanup and a cancelled manifest are preserved. Generation history opens previous successful recordings. CLI recover diagnoses interrupted processes and refuses to change results while another project run is active.

Per-assertion speech and captions begin after observed assertions. Android timing uses completed Maestro command metadata; unsupported evidence layouts fail instead of inventing timestamps. Deployed CLI runs require a receipt checked against GitHub plus a matching running web version or APK hash.

This pre-release supports Android/web recording, local narration, captions, and deterministic matching of PR titles/filenames to reviewed scenario tags. The ReleaseLens AI product name does not imply an included AI service: cloud AI planning and ElevenLabs are disabled in this version. iOS and physical-device farms are not supported. Read PRIVACY.md before recording and use synthetic test data.

Setup and supported configurations

Follow the complete user guide for tool installation on each OS, configuration, reviewed flow examples, Flutter semantics, test authentication, GitHub token permissions, CI receipts, outputs, subtitles, cleanup and recovery. Read the CI guide for deployment integration.

0.2.1 changes: HTTP redirects fail closed; configure final target URLs. Android receipts now require a deployment-side APK/build/artifact attestation; regenerate older receipts. Use Set Up Tools to install the new pinned Chromium. Android example flows include clearState: true, which clears the selected test app data. Captions are a selectable MP4 subtitle track.

Platform Scope
Desktop hosts Windows x64, Linux x64, macOS Intel; real packaged extension host checks
Android x86_64 emulator, single APK, Maestro 2.11; complete acceptance on Windows
Web Chromium; HTML test IDs and Flutter semantics; real CanvasKit sample on Windows
Pending iOS, physical devices, split APKs, Flutter desktop, Firefox/WebKit, VS Code Web, ARM host acceptance

The public repository linked by this listing contains support, documentation and binaries. Implementation source remains private. This is a pre-release with the documented scope.
