SessionManager for VS Code

Bring your VS Code workspaces into Session Manager. This companion extension keeps Session Manager aware of the folders you are working in, so you can save, restore, and close development sessions from one place.

Features

  • Automatically adds an open VS Code folder to your current Session Manager session.
  • Lets Session Manager close the matching VS Code window when you close a saved session.
  • Works with Session Manager started before or after VS Code; the extension reconnects automatically when the app becomes available.
  • Opens new VS Code windows in full screen by default, helping restored sessions return to a focused workspace.

Requirements

This extension is designed to work with the Session Manager desktop app. Install both products on the same computer.

Getting started

  1. Install this extension.
  2. Start Session Manager.
  3. Open a folder in VS Code.

The folder appears in Session Manager automatically. If VS Code is already open when you start Session Manager, the extension connects in the background shortly afterwards.

Full-screen windows

The Session Manager: Restore VS Code Fullscreen setting is enabled by default. It uses VS Code's built-in window preferences to open new windows in full screen and to restore full-screen windows after they are closed through Session Manager.

To use your usual VS Code window behavior instead, open Settings, search for Session Manager: Restore Vs Code Fullscreen, and turn it off. SessionManager restores the window preferences that were in place before this option was enabled.

Privacy

SessionManager for VS Code does not send your workspace information to a cloud service. It shares the open folder path and VS Code process ID with the Session Manager desktop app on your computer through a local connection at ws://localhost:19174. This information is used only to organize and restore your sessions.

Troubleshooting

  • My folder does not appear: Confirm that the Session Manager desktop app is running, then wait a few seconds for the connection to be established.
  • I do not want full-screen windows: Disable Session Manager: Restore VS Code Fullscreen in VS Code Settings.
  • The extension is not connecting: Reload VS Code with Developer: Reload Window, then start Session Manager again.
