Installation
From Source
Clone or download this extension
Open the echo folder in VS Code
Run npm install to install dependencies
Run npm run compile to compile TypeScript
Press F5 to launch a new Extension Development Host window
Test the extension in the new window
Installing as VSIX
Compile the extension: npm run vscode:prepublish
Package the extension: vsce package (requires vsce to be installed: npm install -g vsce)
Install the generated .vsix file in VS Code
How to Use
Access Echo Chat
Click the Echo AI icon (💬) in the Activity Bar on the left side of VS Code
The Echo AI chat panel will open in the sidebar
Type your questions or paste text to summarize
Chat with Echo AI in real-time
Summarize Selected Text
Select any text in your editor
Right-click and choose "Echo: Summarize in Echo Chat" from the context menu
OR use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+S (or Cmd+Shift+S on Mac)
OR open Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P) and search for "Echo: Summarize in Echo Chat"
The chat panel will automatically open (if not already visible) and process your selected text
View the response in the chat interface
Send Code to Chat
Select any code in your editor
Right-click and choose "Echo: Send Code to Chat" from the context menu
OR use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+C (or Cmd+Shift+C on Mac)
OR open Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P) and search for "Echo: Send Code to Chat"
The code will be sent to chat with language context for explanation
Use Text Input Dialog
Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+Alt+S (or Cmd+Shift+Alt+S on Mac)
OR open Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P) and search for "Echo: Summarize Text Input"
Enter or paste your text in the input dialog
The chat panel will automatically open (if not already visible) and process your text
