Kindle Reader

Read EPUBs in VS Code the way you'd read them on a Kindle: a single centred column of text, sepia by default, no chrome in the way, and your place kept for every book.

Opening a book

Open any .epub file — Kindle Reader is registered as its editor, so a double-click in the Explorer is enough. You can also right-click the file and choose Open with Kindle Reader.

Reading

Page mode turns pages like a book:


Next / previous page	Click the right / left edge of the page, `→` / `←`, `PageDown` / `PageUp`, `Space`
	Swipe or drag horizontally
Hide the toolbar	Click the middle of the page

Scroll mode (the Pg / Sc button) scrolls one chapter at a time:


Scroll	Wheel or trackpad, `↑` / `↓`
A screen at a time	`PageDown` / `PageUp`, `Space`
Next / previous chapter	Keep scrolling at the end of a chapter, or `→` / `←`
Hide the toolbar	Click the text

`Sg` `Lt` `Dk`	Sepia, light, dark
`A-` `A+`	Font size
`W-` `W+`	Width of the text column, in pixels of actual text
`Pg` `Sc`	Page mode / scroll mode

Progress through the book is shown along the bottom edge.

What gets remembered

Your position is saved per book, so reopening one puts you back on the same page — down to the line in scroll mode. Theme, font size, column width, flow and whether the contents panel is open are shared across books.

Requirements

VS Code 1.74 or newer. Nothing else — the reader runs entirely inside the editor and never reaches the network.
