Codex Cat

Codex Cat in action

Codex Cat adds a cat to the right side of the VS Code status bar. It dances while Codex is working and rests when Codex is done.

Set Up Codex Cat

No terminal commands are needed.

  1. Click Set up Codex Cat in the bottom-right corner of VS Code.
  2. Watch the short guide, then select Open Hook Settings.
  3. Codex Settings → Hooks opens. Find the two Codex Cat hooks, click Trust for both, and make sure both switches are on. Select Reload hooks if it appears.
  4. Close the settings tab. When the yellow button becomes a cat, setup is complete. Send Codex a message to try it.

Using Remote - SSH? Install Codex Cat in the SSH window and follow the same steps there. Codex running through WSL on Windows is not supported yet.

If Setup Does Not Finish

  • Click the yellow button and complete the step it shows.
  • If Codex settings do not open, open the Codex panel and select Settings → Hooks.
  • After trusting both Codex Cat hooks, select Reload hooks if it appears and wait a few seconds.
  • If setup still does not finish, run Codex Cat: Set Up Again from the Command Palette.
