CodeMux

Fix bugs, build features, and write tests with AI in Visual Studio Code.

CodeMux chooses the right model for each part of your task, makes changes in your workspace, and shows you the diff, checks, and total cost. New accounts include $1 in free credit—no subscription required.

CodeMux sidebar chat

Get started in three steps

  1. Install CodeMux and open a project in VS Code.
  2. Open CodeMux in the sidebar and continue with GitHub or Microsoft. Your account is created automatically the first time you sign in.
  3. Describe what you want to change. CodeMux will inspect the project, make the change, and show you the result.

Why CodeMux

  • Less model setup. Start with recommended models; CodeMux can switch to a stronger model when the work needs it.
  • Pay for usage. No subscription. Added funds never expire.
  • Clear results and cost. See changed files, checks, elapsed time, and the total charge for each run.
  • Reviewable changes. Inspect the diff, keep working, or undo managed file changes.

Automatic routing is the default. You can also choose preferred models or connect a compatible API key.

How it works

  1. Describe the outcome you want.
  2. CodeMux inspects the repository and decides how the work should be routed.
  3. It can move to a stronger model for difficult steps and return to the configured starting model for a new work stage.
  4. CodeMux can run local checks such as tests and type checks.
  5. Review the changed files, checks, elapsed time, model routing, and total cost in one place.

Language support

CodeMux can read, edit, and check projects in any text-based language. TypeScript and JavaScript work with VS Code's built-in language support. For language-aware Python and Go actions, install the corresponding VS Code extension.

Select code and run CodeMux: Ask About Selection to ask about a specific section. Actions that can have broader effects still ask for confirmation.

Data, billing, and license

The extension is free to install, and new accounts include $1 in credit. Managed models use one pay-as-you-go CodeMux balance with no subscription. Added funds never expire. Requests sent through your own compatible API are billed by that provider instead of CodeMux.

Workspace excerpts required to complete a run are sent to the CodeMux service and the selected model provider. See Privacy, Terms, and the proprietary license in the installed package.
