Chalk Skills

Chalk Skills Demo

Turn your AI agent skills into a game. Track usage, earn XP, unlock achievements, and visualize your skill library with an RPG-inspired VS Code extension.

Quick Start

Option A: Start from scratch

  1. Install the extension
  2. Open any project in VS Code
  3. Run Chalk Skills: Init from the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P)
  4. Three sample skills are created in skills/ — start exploring

Option B: Create a skill

Run Chalk Skills: Create New Skill — you'll be prompted for a name, description, risk level, and tools. A v3 SKILL.md file is generated and opened.

Option C: Already have skills

If your project has skills/*/SKILL.md files, the extension activates automatically. Click the Chalk Skills icon in the Activity Bar.

What It Does

Dashboard — Player level, XP bar, phase coverage radar, achievement badges, and a most-used skills leaderboard.

Inventory — Browse skills as collectible cards with rarity tiers (common, rare, epic). Filter by phase, search by name, and see usage stats.

Skill Tree — Collapsible phase-based tree with progress bars. Jump between phases instantly. See which skills are locked vs discovered.

Auto-Recording — When an AI agent reads a SKILL.md file, usage is recorded automatically. No manual tracking.

Auto-Classification — Skills are categorized into development phases (Foundation, Design, Architecture, Engineering, Development, Launch) using pattern matching and TF-IDF classification.

Skill File Format (v3)

Each skill is a SKILL.md file inside a named folder:

skills/
  my-skill/
    SKILL.md
