Workbench by Ben Seymour

A warm pair of themes for making things. Inspired by the colours of Ben Seymour's personal site, with light-blue dividers to make split terminals easier to distinguish.

Two ways to work

• Ben Seymour · Workbench: a light theme with a warm paper background, charcoal text, rust, leaf green and muted blue.
• Ben Seymour · Evening: a dark olive-charcoal background with warm text and softer syntax colours.

Both include light-blue terminal dividers and resize highlights. The theme changes their colour; VS Code controls their thickness.

Choose your theme

Open Preferences: Color Theme from the Command Palette and select Workbench or Evening.

To switch quickly between the pair, add these to your User settings:

Then run Preferences: Toggle between Light/Dark Themes. You can assign that command a shortcut through Keyboard Shortcuts.

Fonts and terminals

Workbench uses your existing fonts and layout. Source Code Pro is a good companion, but no font is bundled or required. Terminal applications that choose their own RGB colours may not follow the theme completely.

Other machines

Enable VS Code Settings Sync using the same account on each machine. For a private VSIX installation, install the package separately on each machine. Fonts need to be installed separately too.

Moving from the local preview

If you installed the earlier ben-seymour-local preview, uninstall that preview after installing this edition to avoid duplicate theme names. Run Developer: Reload Window after changing editions, then select your theme again.

Small by design

Theme definitions only. No executable extension code, runtime dependencies, telemetry, network requests, or access to your files. It does not change your font, layout or settings automatically.
