Yorùbá Language Pack for VS Code

Community-maintained Yorùbá localization of the VS Code interface: File -> Fáìlì, Terminal -> Támínà, Save -> Fi Pamọ́, and more.

Status: Tier 1 keyed and install-verified

translations/main.i18n.json is generated by ../../scripts/generate-language-pack.mjs from data/glossary-ui.csv's module/key columns - real VS Code NLS identifiers, confirmed against a currently-published VS Code language pack rather than guessed (see docs/LOCALIZATION.md at the repo root for exactly how, and how to extend this past Tier 1). 624 keys across 157 modules are covered as of this writing.

Confirmed working in a real VS Code install - packaged as a VSIX, installed, and selected via "Configure Display Language"; the translated strings render in the UI. Only Tier 1 is covered, so most of the interface stays in English.

Switching language and uninstalling

To switch the display language (to Yorùbá or back):

  1. Press Ctrl+Shift+P (Cmd+Shift+P on macOS) to open the Command Palette.
  2. Type display language and choose Configure Display Language.
  3. Pick the language you want and let VS Code restart.

Before uninstalling this pack, switch back to the language you used before (English, or whichever you had) with the steps above, let VS Code restart, then uninstall. Removing the pack while Yorùbá is still the active language may leave other extensions in a bad state until you restart your computer.

Scope: Tier 1 first

Rather than translating VS Code's entire core in one pass, this pack starts with the menu bar, top command-palette commands, panel titles, and common buttons/notifications - the strings a developer sees in every session. Any key not yet translated falls back to English automatically, so partial coverage never breaks anything.

Vocabulary status

Entries in data/glossary-ui.csv are tagged confirmed or draft. Several draft entries are modern computing terms (Explorer, Debug, Command Palette, Source Control) that don't have standardized Yorùbá equivalents yet - see CONTRIBUTING.md at the repo root if you can help settle those. A resolved module/key (i.e. this string is correctly wired into the real translation bundle) is independent of confidence (i.e. this Yorùbá text is linguistically right) - most entries here have the former but not yet the latter.
