Start in a minute

Install Auric Artisan File System and open a workspace folder.
In Explorer, expand Auric Files, or run Auric Files: Open File Workspace from the Command Palette.
Choose a resource or open a file in the editor. Search the action list, then expand the group you need.
Right-click a file for File Properties, or open Auric Files in its context menu for grouped operations.
Select multiple files in the native Explorer before opening the workspace when you need a batch operation or comparison.

Native New File, New Folder, Rename and drag-and-drop remain familiar VS Code interactions. Quick Actions… remains available if you prefer a keyboard-first command picker.

Search narrows the action list instantly. Disclosure groups automatically collapse their siblings when no search is active. Keyboard focus and native wheel scrolling work in both the editor workspace and narrow sidebar.

Properties that put the details first

Open File Properties to inspect a resource in the existing workspace panel, or switch the sidebar to 02 Properties.

General: name, full path, type, reported size, created and modified timestamps.
Organisation: tags, workspace/group membership and indexed companion files.
Access & history: provider read-only flags, Auric protection, cached Git status and Auric operation history.
Useful actions: refresh facts, copy the path, edit tags and add to a group.

Properties reads filesystem metadata, not file contents. Owner/creator, full access-control lists and some timestamps are not available from every provider; missing values are not invented. Folder size is not a recursive disk-usage calculation. Git status is labelled as cached, and related-file discovery requires an index.

The same tools beside your editor

The Auric Files Explorer section provides the same actions and Properties without opening a second file tree. Its Open workspace button opens the larger editor interface.

The icon-tools section can inspect, assign or clear resource icons through the active Auric Facet or Playful theme. Those extensions are optional; File System does not bundle them or change their own context-menu contributions.

Build and refactor with context

Batch creation: nested paths, brace sets and numeric/alphabetic ranges, with expansion limits.
Templates: variables, filters, conditional blocks and configurable indentation.
Framework presets: React, Vue, Angular, Svelte, Node.js, Python, Java, Go, Rust and Generic.
Related-file navigation: components, tests, styles, stories and documentation; generate missing companions.
Batch rename: patterns, regular expressions, replacement, case conversion and numbering, with collision-aware previews.
Discovery: glob, regex and fuzzy search; filters for extension, kind, size, dates, Git state, tags and flags.
Working sets: tags, collections, virtual groups, favorites and profiles; metadata follows supported moves and renames.
Compare and export: native diff/merge and a JSON selection manifest. Export is not a ZIP archive of file contents.

Safety and recovery

Auric's guarded operations use path checks, workspace-trust rules, collision planning, configurable confirmation and history. Workspace Trash supports restoration, retention and size limits. Permanent deletion remains a separate action.

Native Explorer operations keep VS Code's own behaviour. Auric history records Auric file operations, not every editor change or historical copies of file contents. Review batch previews and keep normal project backups or version control.

For a resource outside the workspace, the panel allows inspection but blocks workspace file actions. For creation directly at a single-folder workspace root, use the native Explorer; panel target actions require a file or subfolder.

Requirements and boundaries

VS Code 1.95 or newer. Desktop/remote extension-host support; this is not a standalone browser extension.
File-changing operations require workspace trust.
Remote and virtual providers expose different capabilities. OS reveal, hashing and trash may be unavailable.
Native Explorer sorting supports name, type and modified date. Other indexed sort/group options do not replace the native tree comparator.
Counts are index-based; an unbuilt or capped index is labelled.
The interface is currently English. Optional icon-theme integrations require a compatible theme.
Local filesystem operations do not require an Auric account. The workspace UI loads local scripts/styles; website, support and hosted Marketplace images require network access when opened.

Keyboard and settings

Explorer-focused shortcuts include Alt+Enter for Properties and Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+M for compact metadata hovers. If VS Code supplies no selected URI, Properties opens a resource picker.

The wider shortcut deck is opt-in: enable auricFiles.keyboard.enableDefaultShortcuts. Native editor shortcuts are not globally replaced by default.
