Installation
- Install the extension from VS Code Marketplace
- Open the CodeLamp sidebar (click the CodeLamp icon in the Activity Bar)
- Enter your Google Gemini API key
- Start chatting with your AI assistant!
Getting Your API Key
- Visit Google AI Studio
- Create a free API key for Gemini
- Copy and paste it into CodeLamp settings
How to Use
- Start a Conversation: Type your coding question or request in the chat input
- Get Help: Ask CodeLamp to review, generate, fix, or explain code
- Manage History: View previous conversations and load them anytime
- Clear Chat: Start fresh with the "New Chat" button
Requirements
- VS Code 1.107.0 or higher
- Google Gemini API key (free tier available)
Privacy & Security
- API keys are stored securely in VS Code's built-in secret storage
- No conversation data is sent to third parties
- Only your Gemini API key and prompts are sent to Google's API
