AppVision Development

Delivers the AppVision Claude Code AL plugin (al@appvision-al-tools) to developer machines and keeps every AL project working after plugin updates. Install this extension once; there are no manual steps after that.

What it does

  • Installs and updates the plugin. Shortly after VS Code starts, and every few hours after that, it registers the AppVision plugin marketplace with Claude Code, updates it, and installs or updates the plugin at user scope, so every project uses the latest version.
  • Moves projects to user scope. Projects that still have a project- or local-scope install of the plugin are switched to the shared user-scope install automatically.
  • Repairs plugin paths after an update. /al:init writes the plugin's versioned install path into .claude/CLAUDE.md and .claude/skills/project-standards/SKILL.md. After an update the extension points those paths at the new version. If the plugin's templates changed too, it asks you to run /al:init.
  • Sets up new projects. For an AL project without .claude/env.json it offers Set up project, which runs /al:setup and then /al:init in a terminal.

It never touches your own skills, commands, agents or plugins.

Requirements

  • Claude Code CLI (claude) on PATH, or set appvision.claudePath.
  • An AppVision Azure DevOps account. The extension signs you in with VS Code's built-in Microsoft sign-in. The token is only passed to the claude/git processes it starts; it is never stored.

Commands

All commands are in the Command Palette under AppVision, and in the menu that opens when you click the AL status bar item.

Settings

Setting Default
appvision.updateIntervalHours 4 How often to check for plugin updates
appvision.marketplaceUrl AppVision plugin repo Marketplace git URL
appvision.pluginId al@appvision-al-tools Plugin to install
appvision.autoMigrateScope true Move project/local installs to user scope
appvision.autoRepairPaths true Repair rendered plugin paths after updates
appvision.claudePath "" Path to claude; empty means PATH

Using a development build of the plugin

The extension leaves a project alone if its .claude/settings.local.json disables the central plugin or enables a -dev marketplace build of it:

{ "enabledPlugins": { "al@appvision-al-tools": false, "al@appvision-al-tools-dev": true } }

With a dev marketplace build, path repair points at that build's install.
