CopyPreflight — PostgreSQL CSV COPY checks (evaluation)

Free evaluation. Not for sale.

CopyPreflight checks a limited subset of PostgreSQL CSV COPY NULL and integer rules against a saved local profile, showing positions and codes in VS Code. There is no billing, card entry, subscription or automatic charge. Read the evaluation permission; this is not an open source license.

Install and try the synthetic examples

The runtime has been tested on Windows x64 with VS Code 1.89.1 and 1.143.1. The package targets win32-x64. These checks do not establish universal coverage; other operating systems, architectures and editor versions have not been validated. The engine range is a minimum compatibility declaration, not evidence of testing every release in that range.

  1. Uninstall ambivra-unpublished.copy-preflight-local first if installed, then reload VS Code before installing the new extension. The new extension has a different ID; it is not an automatic upgrade. Simultaneous installation is unsupported because both register the same commands. Keep your existing CSV and profile files.
  2. Open Extensions in VS Code, search for @id:ambivra.copy-preflight, select CopyPreflight — PostgreSQL CSV COPY checks (evaluation) and choose Install. Check the extension identifier before installing.
  3. Download fail.csv, pass.csv and default.profile.json from the public synthetic samples into your own locally stored evaluation folder.
  4. Run CopyPreflight: Check Selected CSV with Profile in the Command Palette. Select fail.csv, then default.profile.json. The Problems panel should show five diagnostics. Repeat with pass.csv and the same profile for zero diagnostics. A clean result does not guarantee a successful database import.
  5. The CSV editor buffer is checked against the saved profile. Save profile edits and run again. Editing either clears stale diagnostics. Use CopyPreflight: Clear Diagnostics to clear the results explicitly.

Scope and failure handling

Supported: strict UTF-8 without BOM; comma CSV; double quotes with doubled-quote escape; consistent LF, CRLF or CR record endings; quoted embedded newlines; boolean header flag; text, int4, int8; NOT NULL; saved NULL token; FORCE_NULL and FORCE_NOT_NULL. Unquoted NULL and quoted empty text stay distinct.

CSV limit: 5 MiB. Profile: 64 KiB. At most 128 columns, 65,536 UTF-16 units per field, 50,000 records including header, 100,000 physical lines and 200 diagnostics. Malformed CSV, unsupported types/options and exceeded limits stop as incomplete. Fix the selected input/profile and rerun; later ambiguous records are not certified. Integer checks preserve precision.

No SQL/DDL inference, HEADER MATCH, nondecimal integers, database connection, import, database-state validation, foreign-key/trigger/permission checking, remote/virtual workspace or UNC support. Select locally stored files; mapped network drives are not independently identified. No browser demo or hosted Pages service is part of this extension.

Privacy, feedback and stopping

The extension does not upload inputs, call an AI service, send telemetry or rewrite your files. Diagnostics do not contain raw cell values or file paths. Use synthetic data first. The editor and distribution platform have their own policies; this statement describes this extension's runtime.

Evaluation feedback can be posted to the public repository. Issues expose your username and posted text. Do not post production CSVs, private schemas, credentials or personal data. AI may assist with replies. Support is best effort; no continuous service or SLA is promised. Demand and willingness to pay have not been established.

Optional price research

The feedback template optionally asks whether you would choose a hypothetical future supported product at USD9/month before tax; it is not available to order, and answering creates no purchase or payment obligation.

Stop evaluating

To stop, clear diagnostics, uninstall CopyPreflight — PostgreSQL CSV COPY checks (evaluation) and reload/close its window. Retain your CSV/profile files. VS Code can retain an obsolete extension directory until a later cleanup; removal from its installed-extension list does not prove physical erasure. Uninstalling does not retract any feedback you already posted. There is no silent conversion to a paid product.
