More Info

New Window with Recent Folder

A VS Code extension that lists up to 30 recently opened folders and opens the selected one in a new VS Code window.

Features

  • Available via the Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P -> File: New Window with Recent Folder)
  • Available via a status bar item ("Recent in New Window")
  • Available via the keybinding Ctrl+K Ctrl+Shift+R (Cmd+K Cmd+Shift+R on macOS)
  • Lists up to 30 recently opened folders
  • Opens the chosen folder in a new VS Code window

Why is there no File menu entry?

VS Code does not offer a public menu contribution point for the native File menu, so extensions cannot add entries there. Earlier versions of this extension declared a menubar/file menu contribution, which VS Code silently ignores - that is why no menu entry appeared. The command is therefore exposed through the supported entry points listed above.

Requirements

VS Code 1.74.0 or newer.
