CodeVault Strongroom for VS Code

Your team's CodeVault snippets, in the editor.

  • CodeVault: Insert snippet (Ctrl+Alt+V, Cmd+Alt+V on a Mac, or the editor's right-click menu): search by title, language or #tag, snippets in the file's language first. Placeholders such as {{tries}} become tab stops with their defaults. Deprecated snippets offer their replacement.
  • CodeVault: Copy snippet: the code with the placeholders filled with their defaults.
  • CodeVault: Save selection to CodeVault: opens CodeVault in your browser with the selection (or the whole file) in a new snippet form. Nothing is saved until you click Save there.
  • CodeVault: Open CodeVault in the browser.

Setup

CodeVault encrypts your library in the browser, so the editor reads an exported copy:

  1. In CodeVault, choose Export → For the CLI and your agent and save codevault.json.
  2. Put it at .devtools/codevault.json in your workspace (commit it so the whole team has it), or point the codevault.vaultFile setting at it. The DEVTOOLS_VAULT environment variable works too.

Export again whenever the vault changes. The extension reads the file fresh on every command.

The same file works with npx devtools-run snip search|get|test and the devtools-run mcp tools for coding agents.

Privacy

The extension sends nothing anywhere. Save selection opens the site with the code in the URL fragment, which browsers don't send to servers.
