Stop hand-copying AI code changes into your files.Paste AI output → preview the diff → apply it. One click. Full undo, always.
No API keys. No subscription. Works with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini — any chatbot. If you use AI chatbots to write code, you already know the friction: copy a function, find the file, paste it, hope you didn't miss a line, repeat for the next file. Brud Code removes that step. Your AI outputs a change; Brud applies it — reviewed, logged, and reversible — in one click. The whole workflow is one paste, one copyMost AI coding tools stop at "apply the change." Brud closes the loop back to your AI too — so it always knows what actually happened, without you typing a status update by hand.
One paste in. One copy out. No retyping results, no re-explaining what changed, no switching back and forth to check if something failed. Why people switch to Brud Code
Install it nowFastest way: Download the latest release and install the VSIX:
Or from inside VS Code: Once installed, open the Prompt Library in the sidebar, copy the Master Prompt into your favorite AI chatbot, and start pasting Brud blocks. You'll be applying your first AI-generated change in under two minutes. What it does
It's fast — and we proved itTested on a real 384K LOC codebase, manually verified end to end:
100% success rate across every benchmark. No manual per-file work — the AI generates one block, Brud handles the rest. Your history, your machineEvery session is automatically snapshotted before and after, stored locally in Let your AI edit your files directlyIf your AI tool supports MCP (a standard way for assistants to use outside tools), Brud can plug into it. Instead of copying a change out of the chat and pasting it into your files, you connect Brud once and your assistant sends the change straight to Brud. You keep the same safety net. Brud only touches the project you opened, every change is saved, and anything can be undone in one click from History. What you get: ask your AI for a change, watch it land in your files, and undo it like any other Brud action — no copy-paste in between. Setup lives in the extension. Open Brud Code: Open Brud Code Management and use the MCP tab: Start, Stop, a switch that decides whether Brud starts with your project, and a button that copies connection details you can paste into your AI tool. Brud starts on its own when you open a project unless you turn that switch off. For now you install the extension from this repository rather than the marketplace; the setup guide has the steps. PRIVACY.md lists the exact fields, the redaction rules and how to inspect the traffic yourself. Is it really free?Yes — free and open source under the MIT license. Which AI chatbots work with it?Any chatbot that outputs text: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek, Grok, Llama, and more. Where did Brud Code come from?Brud Code is a fork of Akkhar Code Patcher, which is no longer maintained. Brud Code is its official continuation under a new identity.
