AIShelf - Your Team's AI Workflows, Rules & More on a Shared Shelf

Stop losing great prompts to Slack, Google Chat, and personal folders. AIShelf connects a compatible GitHub registry to your IDE sidebar - giving your whole team centralized access to shared AI workflows, rules, skills, and prompts.

🚀 New to AIShelf? Try our starter registry with ready-to-use workflows, rules, skills, and prompts. Connect it in seconds and explore what AIShelf can do!

The Problem

As IDEs become more AI-driven with built-in AI enhancements, teams face a critical challenge:

  • No centralized storage: Everyone maintains their own AI workflows, rules, and prompts locally or across scattered chats
  • No version control: Updates don't reach the team, leading to inconsistent AI behavior
  • Manual sharing: Copying files via Slack or email is slow and error-prone
  • No discoverability: Teammates don't know what resources exist or which ones work best

AIShelf solves this. It connects any AIShelf-compatible GitHub repository as a centralized registry for AI resources that your entire team can access, sync, and contribute to - all from within your IDE.

Features

🎯 Basic Features

Connect to Registries

Open the AIShelf sidebar and click the plug icon to connect to any AIShelf-compatible GitHub repository. You can connect to:

  • Your team's private registry
  • Public community registries
  • Your personal resource library

Don't have a registry yet? Click Create Registry and AIShelf will initialize a properly structured GitHub repository for you automatically - no manual setup required.

Browse Resources in the Sidebar

The AIShelf sidebar displays all your connected registries in a clean tree view:

  • Registries - See all connected repositories
  • Packages - Expand to view workflows, rules, skills, and prompts
  • Resources - Click any resource to preview its content

No command palette needed - everything is visual and intuitive.

Copy Resources

Click the copy icon next to any resource to copy its content to your clipboard. Then paste it wherever your IDE needs it:

  • Cursor's .cursorrules file
  • Windsurf's custom rules
  • Cascade workflows
  • AI chat prompts

Sync with GitHub

Click the sync icon on any registry to pull the latest changes. When your team updates a workflow or adds a new prompt, you'll get it instantly with one click.

GitHub Authentication

Click the GitHub icon in the sidebar toolbar to authenticate securely using VS Code's built-in OAuth. Your credentials are stored locally and never leave your machine.

🚀 Advanced Features

Create and Edit Resources

If you have write access to a registry:

  • Create packages: Click the folder icon to add new package categories
  • Upload resources: Click the upload icon to add new workflows, rules, or prompts
  • Edit resources: Click the edit icon to modify existing resources

Draft System

Work on resources locally before sharing them with the team:

  1. Click Create Resource or Edit Resource to start a draft
  2. Edit the file in your IDE
  3. Click Push to Registry when ready to share with your team
  4. Click Discard Changes to revert if needed

Compare Versions

Click the compare icon on draft resources to see a diff between your local version and the registry version before pushing changes.

Organization Support

Connect to organization-owned registries for team-wide collaboration. AIShelf automatically detects your permissions (read-only vs. write access) based on your GitHub repository access.

Multi-Registry Management

Connect to multiple registries simultaneously - your team's private registry, public community registries, or personal resource collections - and switch between them seamlessly in the sidebar.

Subscription Management

Click the account icon in the sidebar toolbar to manage your AIShelf subscription and access premium features like private registry support.
