Agentbrief — human to agent compiler

Compile messy asks into scoped, token-cheap briefs for Cursor and other coding agents. Local. No API key.

You already pay for the agent. You pay again when the prompt is vague: extra files, extra turns, extra tokens. Agentbrief is a local compiler. It strips filler, guesses the job (debug, implement, test…), and emits a brief with goal, constraints, out-of-scope, and acceptance checks. If the ask is too vague, it asks up to three questions. Your text never leaves the machine.

How to use

  1. Select a rough request in any editor (or open the Agentbrief panel in the activity bar and paste it).
  2. Run Agentbrief: Compile Selection (Auto) — Cmd+Alt+B / Ctrl+Alt+B.
  3. Copy or insert the brief, then hand it to your agent.

Use Compile Selection (Ask If Vague) — Cmd+Alt+Shift+B / Ctrl+Alt+Shift+B — to answer up to three questions before compiling.

Every compile shows a token line such as 41 → 86 tokens. Rate each brief better / same / worse; ratings stay on your machine.

Free and Pro

  • Free: 20 compiles a day. No account, no signup, no API key.
  • Pro: unlimited compiles. Run Agentbrief: Enter Pro License and paste your key, or set agentbrief.licenseKey.

Privacy

The compiler is deterministic and runs entirely inside the editor. It makes no network calls and uses no hosted model. Your prompts, briefs, and ratings stay on disk.

Commands

  • Agentbrief: Compile Selection (Auto)

  • agentbrief.licenseKey: optional Pro license key

FAQ

Why is the brief sometimes longer than my ask? A two-word ask is short, but the agent then spends turns and files guessing. A structured brief can be longer than the prompt and still cheaper across the whole agent session.

Is this better than asking the agent to improve my prompt? The compiler is instant, offline, and biased toward less work, not a friendlier paragraph.

Will you train on my prompts? No. Nothing is sent anywhere.
