Requirements

  • Visual Studio Code (v1.96.0 or later)
  • Git installed and configured
  • Groq API Key (sign up at Groq Developer Portal)

Installation

  1. Open Visual Studio Code
  2. Go to Extensions (Ctrl+Shift+X)
  3. Search for "CommitCraft"
  4. Click "Install"

Configuration

API Key Configuration

There are two ways to configure your Groq API Key:

  1. Recommended: VSCode Settings

    • Open VSCode Settings (File > Preferences > Settings)
    • Search for "CommitCraft"
    • Find the "Groq Api Key" setting
    • Enter your Groq API Key
  2. Alternative: .env File

    • Create a .env file in your project root
    • Add your API key: GROQ_API_KEY=your_api_key_here

Usage

  1. Stage your changes in git
  2. Open the Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P)
  3. Type "Generate Commit Message"
  4. Review the AI-generated commit message
  5. Modify if needed and confirm
