Cortex — Developer Activity Agent
Official IDE agent for Cortex by Zeto Studio.
Cortex is one place to understand and run your company — leadership, people ops, and employees on a shared workspace. This extension connects a developer’s editor to that workspace so HR and leadership can see how engineering time and AI coding tools are actually used.
Why this extension exists
Companies using Cortex need a trustworthy answer to:
How are our developers spending time in the IDE, and how much are they using AI coding tools?
Browsers and HR systems cannot see VS Code / Cursor / Windsurf activity. This agent is the bridge:
- Employee installs the extension and pairs with a short code from Cortex.
- The agent sends activity metadata (time, project, language, IDE, AI usage signals where available).
- Cortex shows that data on the employee profile and in HR / leadership views.
It is part of Cortex’s workforce story — the same product that already covers attendance, approvals, connectors, and executive ask — not a separate monitoring SaaS.
What we collect
- Active / idle coding time (heartbeat-based)
- IDE family (VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Trae)
- Project / workspace name, language, optional relative file path
- Edit counts (lines added / removed), not file contents
- Debug, task/build, and terminal open/close events
- Optional AI usage signals when the editor exposes them
What we never send
- Source code
- Passwords, API keys,
.env, PEM / SSH keys, credential files
- Auth cookies or secret storage contents
You can pause or disconnect anytime from the Command Palette.
Setup
- Your company runs Cortex and HR enables Developer activity monitoring.
- Open Cortex → Employee → Developer Activity, grant consent, generate a pairing code.
- In the IDE: Cortex: Connect to workspace → paste the code.
- Set
cortex.apiBaseUrl to your company Cortex URL if it is not local.
Token is stored in the editor’s Secret Storage — never in settings.json.
Works with
- Visual Studio Code
- Cursor
- Windsurf (and other VS Code–compatible forks)
Product
Privacy
Activity is only ingested when your company enables the feature and (by default) when you consent in Cortex. Revoke the agent token anytime from the employee portal.
