Zeq's Markdown Editor

A live-preview Markdown editor for VS Code in the style of Notion and Obsidian. You edit the rendered document directly. The Markdown syntax stays visible only on the line you are typing in, and the file on disk stays plain Markdown.

Getting started

Open a .md or .markdown file, then either:

• click the preview icon in the editor title bar (Open in Markdown Editor), or
• right-click the file tab → Reopen Editor With… → Markdown Editor.

Use Open as Source Text (the code icon in the title bar) to go back to the plain text editor.

The editor is registered with option priority, so it never replaces your default Markdown editor unless you choose it.

Features

• Live preview: headings, emphasis, lists, quotes, code blocks and links render as you type.
• Slash commands: type / for headings, lists, to-dos, quotes, code blocks, dividers, tables, images, callouts, math, Mermaid diagrams and more.
• Toolbar: undo/redo, format painter, clear formatting, headings, bold, italic, strikethrough, underline, highlight, text colour and an Insert menu.
• Tables: edit cells in place.
• Callouts: Obsidian-style > [!note], > [!warning], > [!tip] and the other standard types.
• Math: inline $x$ and block $$ … $$ equations rendered with KaTeX.
• Diagrams: Mermaid code blocks render as diagrams.
• Notes: [[wikilinks]] to other Markdown files in the workspace, footnotes, %%comments%%, and ==highlights==.
• Images: paste or drop images into the document, or pick one from the workspace.
• Navigation: outline panel, find and replace, folding, and a zen mode.
• Export: save the document as standalone HTML, or open a print-ready page in your browser to save it as PDF.
