Features

  • 🆕 v0.0.11: Multiline fields — commands, URLs, and programs now use auto-expanding textarea for long values
  • 🆕 v0.0.10: Multi-tab Webview — open multiple URLs in separate VS Code tabs with webview: true
  • 🆕 v0.0.9: Input Variables — prompt for user input at runtime using ${input:Label} syntax

🖥️ Terminal Commands

Run commands in VS Code terminal or external terminals (CMD, PowerShell, Git Bash, Windows Terminal).

{
  "name": "Build & Run",
  "commands": ["npm install", "npm run build", "npm start"],
  "autoClose": true
}

Options:

  • autoClose - close terminal after execution
  • terminalProfile - select external terminal (Command Prompt, PowerShell, Git Bash, etc.)
  • runAsAdmin - run with elevated privileges (Windows)

🌐 URLs

Open URLs in VS Code Simple Browser, external browser, or multi-tab Webview panels.

{
  "name": "Dev Server",
  "commands": ["npm run dev"],
  "urls": [
    { "url": "http://localhost:3000" },
    { "url": "http://localhost:3000/api", "external": true },
    { "url": "http://localhost:3000/docs", "webview": true }
  ]
}

Options:

  • external: true - open in system default browser
  • webview: true - open in separate VS Code tab (allows multiple tabs)

Note: VS Code's Simple Browser supports only one tab at a time (VS Code limitation). Multi-tab (webview) uses iframe and works best with localhost URLs — external sites may block embedding via X-Frame-Options.

⚙️ External Programs

Launch any application with arguments.

{
  "name": "Open in VS",
  "programs": [
    {
      "path": "C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Visual Studio\\devenv.exe",
      "args": "MyProject.sln"
    }
  ]
}
{
  "name": "Chrome App",
  "programs": [
    {
      "path": "C:\\Program Files\\Google\\Chrome\\Application\\chrome.exe",
      "args": "--profile-directory=\"Profile 2\" --app=\"https://outlook.office365.com\""
    }
  ]
}

📁 Groups

Organize commands into nested groups.

{
  "name": "Start Server",
  "group": "Dev/Backend",
  "commands": ["dotnet run"]
}

🔐 Environment Variables

Pass environment variables to terminal commands.

{
  "name": "Run with Config",
  "commands": ["echo $env:API_URL", "npm start"],
  "env": {
    "API_URL": "https://api.example.com",
    "DEBUG": "true"
  }
}

📝 Input Variables

Prompt for user input at runtime with ${input:Label} syntax.

{
  "name": "Git Commit",
  "commands": ["git add -A", "git commit -m \"${input:Commit message}\""]
}
{
  "name": "Search Google",
  "urls": [{ "url": "https://google.com/search?q=${input:Search query}", "external": true }]
}
{
  "name": "Open File",
  "programs": [{ "path": "notepad.exe", "args": "${input:File path}" }]
}

Works in commands, URLs, and program arguments. Press Escape to cancel.
