Interactive Terminal for Cursor

Let Cursor Agent work with interactive terminal programs. It can answer prompts, navigate menus with arrow keys, press Enter, interrupt commands and read the results.

Useful for setup wizards such as Next.js and Nuxt, interactive installers and REPLs. You and the agent can use the same visible terminal.

Getting started

Install the extension and reload Cursor. Its tools register automatically in trusted workspaces. If they are disabled, enable them in Cursor's MCP settings.

The agent can choose these tools when needed, or you can ask directly:

Use Interactive Terminal to run the setup wizard, answer its prompts and verify the result.

To open a terminal yourself, run Interactive Terminal for Cursor: New Interactive Terminal from the command palette. Show Status lists available sessions.

What it supports

  • Create and list terminal sessions.
  • Read output and the current screen of terminals created by the extension.
  • Send text, arrow keys, Enter, Tab, Escape and Ctrl+C.
  • Close terminals created by the extension.

Existing terminals also accept input. Reading their output requires shell integration and only captures commands started after activation.

Compatibility

Tested on Windows with Cursor 3.20.17. Remote SSH routing is included, but SSH and the separate Agents Window have not yet been tested live. For SSH, install the extension on the remote host.

Terminals created by the extension close when the window reloads. Up to 12 can run at once. Enter passwords directly in the terminal rather than through the agent.
