Pathling turns coding goals into small, guided implementation steps inside VS Code. It opens the right file, highlights the target, gives you one direct instruction, and reviews each saved change before leading you onward.

How it works

1. Describe what you want to learn, fix, or change.
2. Your selected coding agent inspects the workspace and prepares a private guide.
3. Pathling opens the first target and shows one direct instruction.
4. You make the change and save the file.
5. A read-only reviewer checks the result, then Pathling moves you forward or suggests one correction.

Get started

1. Install Pathling from the VS Code Marketplace.
2. Open the repository you want to work on.
3. Select the Pathling icon in the Activity Bar.
4. Choose a provider and grant one-time workspace permission.
5. If the provider is signed out, select Sign in and complete its own login flow in the VS Code terminal.
6. Describe your goal and press Enter.

Pathling prepares the guide and opens the first target automatically. Follow the instruction, save your change, and watch the review status in the sidebar.

Providers and privacy

Codex and Claude Code support the complete guide-and-review workflow. Pathling uses the provider CLI installed on your machine. It checks the CLI's own authentication status and, when needed, opens the provider's official login command in a visible VS Code terminal.

The provider owns authentication and credential storage. Pathling does not receive or store passwords, access tokens, API keys, or browser sessions, and you do not need a separate Pathling account.

Guide planning and saved-change review use read-only workspace access. Pathling never writes your production code, stages files, creates commits, pushes branches, deletes files, or reverts your work.

Pathling has no hosted service. Guide requests and saved changes travel through the local extension directly to your selected provider.

Status and support

Beta: Pathling is under active development. The current release supports Codex and Claude Code, with more providers planned.
