Scan folders in your VS Code workspace for SVGs with identical content, equivalent content after common formatting normalization, or highly similar drawing structure.
Features
Scan a selected project folder recursively from the SVG Scanner Activity Bar view.
Pick a folder from the open workspace or type a project-relative path.
Review exact duplicates, normalized duplicates, and similar candidates in a readable results view.
Click a result to preview the SVG as an image in VS Code.
Show progress while folders and SVG files are being scanned.
Skip dependency and generated folders such as node_modules, vendor, dist, build, out, coverage, .next, and .cache.
Never delete or modify scanned files.
Usage
Open a project folder in VS Code.
Select the S icon for SVG Scanner in the Activity Bar.
Select Scan SVGs (or Scan for Duplicate SVGs in the view title or Command Palette).
Choose a folder, or enter a path relative to the project root. Choose Project root to scan the workspace while skipping excluded folders.
Click a listed file to open its image preview in VS Code.
You can also right-click a folder in Explorer and choose Scan for Duplicate SVGs; that folder is preselected.
How matching works
Exact duplicates have identical file bytes.
Same after normalization have matching content after comments, common wrapper markup, whitespace, and numeric precision are normalized.
Highly similar candidates have matching viewBox values and similar drawing-attribute signatures. Review these manually; similarity is a candidate signal, not proof that files are interchangeable.
Requirements
Visual Studio Code 1.85.0 or later.
An open workspace folder.
No additional runtime dependencies are required.
Development
npm install
npm run lint
npm test
Package a local VSIX with vsce package. See CHANGELOG.md for release history.
