Developer Assistant

Version License: MIT Build Status

A reusable, production-grade Developer Productivity & Project Assistant for Visual Studio Code. Built to adapt seamlessly across your current and future projects—from Next.js, Laravel, and NestJS to Angular, React, Symfony, CodeIgniter, and Node.js.

Overview

Modern software development often spans multiple language ecosystems, stacks, and frameworks. Developer Assistant is an intelligent, extensible VS Code extension that understands the project open in your workspace and dynamically surfaces the exact tools, diagnostics, generators, and intelligence you need.

It begins with deterministic, local, lightning-fast developer utilities (zero telemetry, zero secret leaks) and provides a pluggable AI architecture for advanced reasoning in V2.

Key Features

1. 🔍 Project Analyzer

Inspects your workspace and determines:

  • Frameworks: Next.js, Laravel, NestJS, Angular, React, Symfony, CodeIgniter, Express / Node.js
  • Languages: TypeScript, JavaScript, PHP, HTML, CSS, SQL (with file metrics)
  • Backend Runtime: Node.js, PHP, or client-only
  • Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, SQLite
  • ORMs & Data Layers: Prisma, Eloquent, Doctrine, TypeORM, Sequelize, Mongoose
  • Infrastructure & Deployments: Docker, Docker Compose, Cloudflare Wrangler, GitHub Actions, Vercel
  • Package Managers: npm, yarn, pnpm, Composer, bun

2. 🩺 Environment Doctor

Identifies configuration pitfalls before runtime exceptions happen:

  • Audits system CLI binaries (node, npm, pnpm, yarn, php, composer, git, docker)
  • Validates .env and .env.local against .env.example templates
  • Flags missing variables and empty secrets without revealing sensitive values
  • Diagnoses uninstalled node_modules or vendor/ directories

3. ⚡ Smart Code Generator & Template Engine

Generates idiomatic, project-aligned code based on your active framework:

  • Laravel: Controller, Eloquent Model, Blueprint Migration, Form Request, API Resource
  • Next.js: Client/Server Component, App Router Page, Route Handler, Server Action, Hook, Zod Schema
  • NestJS: Module, Controller, Service, DTO, Entity, Guard
  • React: Component, Custom Hook, Context
  • Angular: Standalone Component, Service, Guard
  • Symfony: Controller, Entity, Service
  • Express / Node: Route Handler, Controller, Middleware
  • Safety First: File preview, overwrite warning, and non-destructive generation. Custom templates in <root>/templates/ are automatically discovered.

4. 🌐 API Assistant & Route Explorer

Discovers routes, HTTP verbs, and handlers directly from project source files:

  • Next.js App Router (app/api/**/route.ts) & Pages Router
  • Laravel route definitions (routes/api.php, routes/web.php)
  • NestJS decorated controllers (@Controller, @Get, @Post, @Body)
  • Express routing declarations
  • Detects authentication guards, request validation, and OpenAPI documentation presence

5. 🗄️ Database Assistant

Provides a clear, human-readable schema viewer:

  • Parses prisma/schema.prisma models, field types, primary keys, and relations
  • Analyzes Laravel Blueprint migrations (database/migrations/*.php)
  • Inspects TypeORM entity decorators (@Entity, @Column, @PrimaryGeneratedColumn)
  • Flags schema issues such as missing primary keys and unindexed relationships

6. 🚨 Deterministic Error Analyzer

Instant diagnosis for frequent developer errors without waiting for network calls:

  • Missing environment variable resolution and likely .env locations
  • Database socket and port connection failures (e.g. Prisma P1001, ECONNREFUSED)
  • Port conflicts (EADDRINUSE) with resolution steps
  • Missing module and package dependencies
  • React / Next.js hydration mismatches
  • Laravel APP_KEY and Vite manifest exceptions
  • Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS) header misconfigurations

7. 🐙 Git Assistant

Displays repository health at a glance:

  • Current branch & tracking status
  • Modified, staged, and untracked file breakdown
  • Recent 5 commits with author and relative timestamp

8. 🛡️ Modular AI Architecture (V2 Ready)

Prepared for LLM-powered code explanation, refactoring, and project query reasoning:

  • Modular Provider Interface: Google Gemini, Groq, OpenRouter, and Custom OpenAI-compatible endpoints
  • Zero Hardcoded Secrets: Uses VS Code SecretStorage for secure OS-level keychain storage
  • Context Privacy Filter: Sanitizes source code, redacts API keys and JWTs, and strictly excludes .env*, .pem, and key files
