Your Working Memory In VS Code

Cortex is a shared working memory for developers and Claude agents in VS Code. It keeps your tasks, code changes, decisions, and Claude sessions connected, so you can switch between tasks with less mental overhead and keep working with a clear mind.

When you're working across multiple tasks and Claude sessions, it's easy to lose track of what each session is doing, what has already been decided, and where your attention is needed next. Cortex keeps that context attached to the work itself.

Open Cortex with Ctrl/Cmd + T and give it a try.

Switch sessions without losing context

Starting a new Claude session shouldn't mean piecing together the context. With Cortex, your task brings the title, description, linked plans, handoffs and code changes together in one place. Your next agent can simply read that context from the task.

Handoff visualization

Claude's plans are automatically linked to your task. You can also ask Claude to link handoffs, specs or other relevant documents, keeping everything you or your next session needs in one place.

Agents working

See your work in one place, organize larger goals with epics and keep track of the Claude sessions connected to your tasks. Whether you're working on one feature or several projects, you can see what's in progress and what comes next without holding the entire plan in your head.

Pick up where you left off

Ever come back to a task days later and wonder, “Wait, where was I?” With Cortex, you can review the task to see what was done and what comes next, or reopen a linked Claude session with one click and continue with its context intact.

Break down larger work with epics

Organize even complex features in under a minute.

epic showcase

Create an epic, break it into tasks and keep everything in view without the overhead of traditional project management tools.

Keep track of work across projects

As your projects grow, ideas and unfinished tasks don't always belong to the workspace you have open. Cortex lets you browse and edit tasks from your other workspaces without opening them, or jump into a project with one click.

Make your progress count

Cortex works on its own. If you also have LevelUp installed, your completed tasks can earn Pieces you can claim as XP, adding a little extra reward to the work you're already doing.
