Find files and folders in one search box — like JetBrains "Go to File". Press Shift twice, type a name or a path, and press Enter.

VS Code's Quick Open (Ctrl+P) only finds files, and extensions can't add results to it. This extension adds its own search box that finds folders too.

How it works

• Shift Shift (or Go to File or Folder in the Command Palette) opens the search box. Ctrl+P keeps working as before.
• Files are found the same way as in Ctrl+P: type a name, part of a path, or letters in order (bsf finds batch-save-followups).
• Folders appear when your search has a / (or \) in it — for example plans/batch-save-followups/. Without a / the list shows only files, just like Ctrl+P.
• Choose a file → it opens in the editor (preview tabs follow your workbench.editor.enablePreviewFromQuickOpen setting, as in Ctrl+P).
• Choose a folder → the Explorer opens, the tree unfolds down to that folder, the folder itself is expanded, and keyboard focus is on it — so you can keep going with the arrow keys.
• Empty search shows your recent items: files you opened in the editor and folders you went to from this box.

What it searches

The same files Ctrl+P searches: anything excluded by files.exclude, search.exclude, or ignore files (.gitignore, .ignore, .rgignore, .git/info/exclude) is left out, following your search.useIgnoreFiles, search.useParentIgnoreFiles, search.useGlobalIgnoreFiles, and search.followSymlinks settings. A folder is listed when it contains at least one such file.

Limits

• When your search has no /, the order of results and the highlighted letters can differ slightly from Ctrl+P. VS Code's list re-sorts items whose names match by its own rules, and extensions can't turn that off.
• Ctrl+P's prefixes (: line, @ symbol, #, >) and "open to the side" are not part of this box — use Ctrl+P for those.
• Workspace folders on virtual file systems are not searched.
