How To Use

  1. Download and Install Simplicity Studio
    In order to get started with Silicon Labs projects, you must download and install Simplicity Studio. You can download Simplicity Studio installer here.

  2. Creating A New Project
    In order to get started with VS Code, a compatible project must exist. You can do this either by creating a new Silicon Labs project or updating an existing Silicon Labs project. If you are starting from scratch, Simplicity Studio provides an easy way to create new projects, through its Project Wizard. An intuitive GUI will walk you through project creation.

  3. Setting Up The Extension
    To enable the best user experience, make sure that the extension is properly configured. In this section you can setup things such as the location of various tools, ease of use settings.

  4. Adding Compatible Projects to VS Code
    To add a Silicon Labs project to VS Code, you must first generate it as shown in a previous step. Once this is done, the folder can be added to the explorer by using the 'File' menu.

  5. Building, Flashing, and Debugging a project
    Once the folder has been added to the explorer, the Silicon Labs Extension will recognize the compatible project. Once it is recognized, you can use the icons in the extension pane or on the ribbon to build, flash, or debug your application. For more details please visit our

  6. Configuring the Build
    Once the project is opened, you can configure your project to have multiple build flavours. You can add new folders and definitions as well as modify compile flags. For more details please visit our

  7. Silicon Labs Workspace
    Configurations such as Wireless Protocols, Board Drivers, and Hardware Settings can be modified with convenient GUI's from Simplicity Studio. Once these changes have been made in Simplicity Studio, the project must be regenerated so that project files can be appropriately updated. Once the project has been updated, you can continue working within VS Code.
