RxJS Leak Finder

A Visual Studio Code extension that detects potentially unsafe RxJS subscriptions in Angular and TypeScript projects.

Features

  • Detects RxJS subscriptions that may require cleanup.
  • Recognizes common cleanup patterns, including takeUntil, takeUntilDestroyed, first, and take(1).
  • Checks for subscriptions assigned to variables and verifies whether matching unsubscribe() calls exist in ngOnDestroy().
  • Displays warnings directly in the VS Code editor.
  • Provides a Quick Fix action to help developers review subscription cleanup.

How It Works

RxJS Leak Finder analyzes TypeScript code using the TypeScript compiler API.

When it encounters a .subscribe() call, it checks for certain cleanup patterns. If it cannot identify one of the patterns it recognizes, it displays a warning.

Example

Potentially unsafe subscription:

this.deviceService.getDevices().subscribe((devices) => {
  this.devices = devices;
});
