My VS Time Tracker

A simple, lightweight, and automatic time tracker for Visual Studio Code.

My VS Time Tracker helps you keep track of how much time you spend on each file while you code. It automatically handles idle time and provides daily reports, so you know exactly where your day went.

Features

  • Automatic Tracking – Starts tracking as soon as you open a file.
  • Smart Idle Detection – Automatically pauses the timer if you stop typing or moving the mouse for 60 seconds.
  • Daily Reports – View a detailed breakdown of your coding activity for Today and the Past 7 Days.
  • Privacy First – All data is stored locally on your machine. Nothing is sent to the cloud.

How to Use

Status Bar

Look at the bottom-right corner of your VS Code window. You’ll always see the tracker running:

Active

script.js: 0h 15m 30s

Idle (Yellow)

script.js: 0h 15m 30s (Idle)

View Reports

Want to see your stats?
You have two options:

Click the timer directly in the status bar

Or open the Command Palette:

Ctrl + Shift + P (Windows/Linux) Cmd + Shift + P (macOS)

Then run:

Time Tracker: Show Daily Report

A new tab will open showing your coding activity in a Markdown table format.
