Safarli

A natural English programming language. Write, run and build real programs using everyday English.

Safarli 0.1.5 Beta brings the Safarli compiler, virtual machine and editor tools together in one platform-specific extension. Create .saf files, check your ideas and run your programs offline. No separate compiler, development tools, second extension or AI service is required.

Quick Start

  1. This is a private Beta review candidate, not an approved Marketplace release. Use Extensions → … → Install from VSIX and choose the matching Safarli.safarli-0.1.5-win32-x64.vsix or Safarli.safarli-0.1.5-linux-x64.vsix test candidate.
  2. Open a folder you trust. Create hello.saf:
Let greeting be "Hello, Safarli!".
Print greeting.
Print the sum of five and seven.
  1. Choose Safarli: Check Safarli Program from the Command Palette. Problems displays compiler errors with their source locations. Check never runs the program's effects.
  2. Choose Safarli: Run Safarli Program, or press Ctrl+Alt+R. Output → Safarli shows Hello, Safarli! and 12.
  3. Choose Safarli: Format Safarli Program to format your current buffer, or Safarli: Explain Safarli Program to inspect the compiler's interpretation.

Welcome and optional feedback

Safarli: Welcome opens the approved two-column, theme-aware Welcome view. It appears automatically only on the first Safarli use; its preference survives updates and restarts. Get Started opens a new unsaved document; View Examples and Language Guide open packaged offline content. The code panel has real explicit Check/Run actions for the verified first example.

The quiet right-hand Feedback link and Safarli: Send Feedback open a local form only when clicked. No source, paths, stdout or diagnostics are attached automatically. Optional code and allowlisted metadata require an exact preview. Remote delivery is not configured in this review candidate: copy or export your previewed report. An unsent report is never shown as sent. See Feedback privacy. Automatic telemetry is off; this candidate has no event sender and respects the VS Code global telemetry preference.

Safarli: Open Converse opens the verified native compiler in an integrated terminal only when requested. It supports bounded local integer/inventory conversations with explicit preview and confirmation. It is not a chatbot or file/payment integration. Stop also closes the terminal owned by Safarli.

Clarify your meaning

Safarli can offer verified alternatives when a nominal object, numeric pronoun, collection reference or arithmetic grouping has multiple valid meanings. For example:

Let travel fund be nineteen.
Let repair fund be seven.
Increase it by three.
Show travel fund.
Show repair fund.

After Check, the question and Yes / No / Choose… appear beside the ambiguous source line. The same choices are available through Quick Fix. Safarli: Clarify Safarli Source remains available for the command flow. Yes selects the proposed meaning; No selects the other meaning only when there are exactly two verified choices. With more choices, No opens an explicit candidate list.

Review the source diff, then choose Apply and Check. Safarli checks the rewritten program and revalidates its source and module context before applying an undoable, unsaved editor edit. Save when ready. Run is always a separate, explicit action. Cancel, a failed check or changed source leaves your code intact. Correct, unambiguous programs produce no questions; save-time checks never open clarification dialogs.

Editor tools

Command What it does
Run Safarli Program Run the selected program. Ctrl+Alt+R.
Check Safarli Program Check without executing program effects. Ctrl+Alt+C.
Explain Safarli Program Show the compiled interpretation without execution.
Format Safarli Program Format the current buffer as an undoable edit.
Clarify Safarli Source Review verified meanings and source changes.
Show Safarli Version Show the real compiler version, source commit and verified executable path.
Stop Safarli Processes Stop active Safarli processes. Ctrl+Alt+Shift+R.
Show Output Open the Safarli output panel.
Welcome / View Examples / Language Guide Open local onboarding and verified examples.
Send Feedback Preview and copy/export an optional report; no remote receiver yet.
Open Converse Start an explicit local programming conversation.

.saf files have syntax coloring and compiler semantic highlighting. Choose Preferences: Color Theme → Safarli Dark for the included theme. Problems retains the correct source file for errors in imported modules.

Typing keeps lexical highlighting without opening error dialogs or printing compiler JSON. Invalid or unfinished sources fall back from semantic colors silently. Manual Check shows all errors in Problems and a short Output summary.

Run, Check and Explain save changed open Safarli files in the same workspace first. Save-time checks wait while another source in the workspace is unsaved. Formatting uses the current buffer. Project analysis and clarification use saved source files.

Settings

The defaults use the compiler inside the extension.

Setting Default Purpose
safarli.telemetryEnabled false Separate preference; no automatic event sender is implemented.
safarli.checkOnSave false Opt in to silent checks of completed saved statements.
safarli.developerDiagnostics false Write full diagnostic/proof metadata to a separate developer channel.
safarli.semanticHighlighting true Use compiler semantic colors for saved sources.
safarli.entryFile empty Optional workspace-relative program entry, including for clarification.
safarli.workingDirectory empty Program I/O directory; defaults to the workspace or source folder.
safarli.executablePath empty Optional explicit external compiler for developers.
safarli.compilerDirectory empty Optional external compiler checkout for developers.

Platforms and updates

This beta prepares Windows x64 and Linux x64 packages under the same identity, Safarli.safarli. Choose the package matching the operating system and architecture of the extension host. WSL, SSH and container workspaces use their remote host's package. Windows ARM64, macOS and Linux ARM64 are not built or validated for this beta.

The bundle checks its manifest, file sizes, SHA-256 hashes, native machine type and actual compiler version before use. The extension never downloads or builds a compiler at installation. Normal extension updates replace the bundled compiler together with the editor tools.

The Windows x64 compiler is cross-built; a native Windows 11 smoke test is still required before Marketplace publication. Linux x64 is tested natively. This beta requires VS Code 1.96 or later and a trusted filesystem workspace. There is no debugger, language server or autocomplete. Ordinary Run has no interactive stdin; Open Converse is its own bounded interactive terminal mode.

The extension version is 0.1.5. The included compiler reports 0.1.5 and records its exact source snapshot in Show Safarli Version and compiler/manifest.json. The preview aligns compiler, extension and bundle versions.

Licence

Original Safarli software is governed by the included Safarli EULA. It permits no-fee lawful personal, educational and business use. Your Safarli programs and outputs remain yours. Third-party runtime and linguistic licences and attribution are included under compiler/licenses/; their terms remain in force. The adapted morphology and Part 3 pronoun/clause tables are supplied as complete editable source with attribution and CC BY-SA 4.0 under compiler/licenses/; the Safarli EULA does not restrict rights granted for those components. Valid permissions granted for earlier copies under earlier terms are preserved.

The full offline language guide explains the supported contracts. Final Welcome approval, real Windows native validation and a verified feedback receiver remain public Beta gates. Marketplace publication is not authorized.
