INFORM II (Yaskawa) — VS Code extension

Language support for Yaskawa INFORM II robot jobs (DX100 / DX200 / YRC1000 / YRC1000micro): edit .JBI files with highlighting, completion, documentation and diagnostics, write a job from a G-code program or from a text to weld, and browse the jobs of the controller over FTP — all inside VS Code.

English · Italiano · Full guide

The language

Open any .JBI file: the extension knows the 155 instructions of the catalogue, the job sections (/JOB, //POS, //INST, ///ATTR…), labels (also numeric, *1), variables (B/I/D/R/S/P/BP/EX), position data (C/BC/EC), signals and files, comments and deactivated lines (COMM).

Completion and argument hints — typing an instruction lists it with its signature; inside the line you get the tags that instruction accepts, with range and an example:

COMARCON WEV#(1) U/D=5000 L/R=0.0

Documentation on hover — instructions, tags, variables, position data, signals, labels, sections and the controller alarm codes used in the comments:

MOVL C00001 V=8.0 PL=0 'WAIT FOR START

Diagnostics — the mistakes that stop a job from loading are pointed out while you type:

IFTHENEXP LI000<40000 → Constant 40000 in an expression: an integer element can only
                              hold 32767 (use a D or R variable)
CALL JOB:PROVA → Job `PROVA` (not found in the workspace)

Also: unknown instructions and tags, values outside the allowed range, unbalanced blocks, undefined or duplicated labels, indentation that is not one TAB per level, local variables used but not declared in ///LVARS. Step numbers (virtual, never written in the file), job outline, Go to definition on JUMP *LOOP and CALL JOB:NAME, insertion of whole blocks (FOR/NEXT, SWITCH/CASE, IF/ELSE, WHILE) and the ladder language (Concurrent I/O, .lst files) with its branch numbers.

From G-CODE to a job

Open a .nc / .gcode / .tap file (or paste the program) in the G-CODE panel of the INFORM II view:

N20 G0 X0 Y0 Z50
N30 M3
N40 G1 Z0 F300
N50 G1 X100 Y0 F600
N60 G1 X100 Y60
N70 G3 X80 Y80 I-20 J0
N90 G1 X0 Y0
N100 M5
MOVL C00000 V=20.0 'clearance Z move
ARCON
MOVL C00001 V=5.0          'down to Z0 (F300 -> 5 mm/s)
MOVL C00002 V=10.0
MOVL C00003 V=10.0
MOVC C00004 V=10.0 'the G3 arc becomes 3 MOVC
MOVC C00005 V=10.0
MOVC C00006 V=10.0
MOVL C00007 V=10.0
MOVL C00008 V=10.0
ARCOF
MOVL C00009 V=20.0

Positions are written in the user frame you choose, M3/M4/M5 become ARCON/ARCOF, speeds go from mm/min to mm/s, G92, G90/G91, G17-G19, G28 and the A/B/C axes are handled, and a program longer than 4999 steps is split into jobs called by a parent job. What was ignored is listed in the panel, so nothing goes missing without a warning.

From ASCII to Weld

In the From ASCII to Weld panel write the text (also on several rows), set the height in mm and press Convert: every character is welded with as few beads as possible, so L, P, U, O, S, 0 … are a single pass and only the characters with a branch (E, F, T, G, A …) are split in two.

CIAO
SALDATURA
NOP
'C
MOVL C00000 V=50.0 'torch at the clearance Z
MOVL C00001 V=100.0 'down to the working Z
ARCON
MOVC C00002 V=8.0 'curved letters: MOVC in 3s
MOVC C00003 V=8.0
MOVC C00004 V=8.0
...
ARCOF
MOVL C00011 V=50.0 'lift, next bead

Every bead is welded with ARCON/ARCOF, the torch lifts to the clearance Z between two beads when the two quotas differ, and the curved parts (C, O, S, B, 0, 8…) are welded with MOVC so the bead follows the curve. Since every innesco and every spegnimento leaves extra material, a character is welded with as few beads as possible: one pass for L, P, U, O, S, 0 …, two where the drawing has a branch (E, F, T, G, A …).

Tell the panel the size of the plate: the text is centred on it with a tick (turn the tick off to place it by hand), the preview draws the plate, the orange cross of the user frame and the X/Y arrows, and the panel warns you when the text does not fit. The cross is the bottom right corner of the plate, with X+ along the height of the characters, Y+ towards the left and Z+ the elevation: the three axes follow the right-hand rule. All the characters of the font are available — capitals, lowercase, accented letters, digits, punctuation and symbols — with proportional spacing.

Controller (FTP)

The Controller (FTP) view browses the job folders of the controller: download a job and open it, upload it back, download it to a local file, create folders, delete files. The password is kept in the VS Code keychain, never in the settings. INFORM II: Diagnose the FTP connection prints what the server answers, when something does not work.

Main commands

Command What it does
INFORM II: Translate a G-CODE file opens the G-CODE panel and loads the file you pick
INFORM II: Insert instruction from reference picks an instruction from the catalogue and inserts it
INFORM II: Insert the FOR / NEXT block (also SWITCH/CASE, IF/ELSE, WHILE, loop with label) inserts the whole block, with the right indentation
INFORM II: Show/hide the step numbers step numbers in the editor side bar (Ctrl+Alt+N)
INFORM II: Go to step goes to the line of a step number
Concurrent I/O: show/hide the ladder branch numbers branch numbers in the .lst files
INFORM II: Search alarm code searches the 1,334 alarm codes of the controller
INFORM II: Configure the controller connection guided setup of the FTP connection

Requirements

VS Code 1.90 or newer. The extension has no runtime dependency other than vscode. Jobs must be saved as .JBI files (the only extension associated with the language).

Settings

Everything is in Settings → INFORM II: the user frame, tool and orientation used for the generated jobs, the job called by G28, the welding text (height, quotas, speeds) and the step/branch number options. A job stops at 4999 steps: a longer program is split into several jobs called by a parent job. The other settings are described in the full guide.

Licence

The extension is distributed under the licence in LICENSE.txt. Parts adapted from other projects (and the welded text font, SIL Open Font License 1.1) are listed in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md.

INFORM II (Yaskawa) — Estensione VS Code

Italiano · English · Guida completa

MOVL C00001 V=8.0 PL=0 'WAIT FOR START

N20 G0 X0 Y0 Z50
N30 M3
N40 G1 Z0 F300
N50 G1 X100 Y0 F600
N60 G1 X100 Y60
N70 G3 X80 Y80 I-20 J0
N90 G1 X0 Y0
N100 M5
MOVL C00000 V=20.0 'spostamento in quota di svincolo
ARCON
MOVL C00001 V=5.0 'discesa a Z0 (F300 = 5 mm/s)
MOVL C00002 V=10.0
MOVL C00003 V=10.0
MOVC C00004 V=10.0 'l'arco G3 diventa 3 MOVC
MOVC C00005 V=10.0
MOVC C00006 V=10.0
MOVL C00007 V=10.0
MOVL C00008 V=10.0
ARCOF
MOVL C00009 V=20.0

From ASCII to Weld (scritta saldata)

CIAO
SALDATURA
NOP
'C
MOVL C00000 V=50.0 'in quota di svincolo
MOVL C00001 V=100.0 'discesa in quota di lavoro
ARCON
MOVC C00002 V=8.0 'lettere curve: MOVC a gruppi di 3
MOVC C00003 V=8.0
MOVC C00004 V=8.0
...
ARCOF

Impostazioni
