Lust Noir

A dark VS Code theme with a deep ash background and orchid/rose accents. Inspired by the aesthetic of Fullmetal Alchemist.

Full Setup

This theme controls colors and editor settings, but the complete look requires two fonts and two extensions.

1. Install the fonts

Font Where to get it
JetBrains Mono jetbrains.com/mono — free
Dank Mono dank.sh — paid, used for UI elements

Install both fonts on your system before opening VS Code.

2. Install the required extensions

Search and install from the Extensions panel (Ctrl+Shift+X):

  • Custom UI Style — subframe7536.custom-ui-style
  • Material Icon Theme — PKief.material-icon-theme

3. Enable Custom UI Style

This extension modifies VS Code's internal files to inject CSS. VS Code will warn you about it — this is expected.

After installing Custom UI Style:

  1. Open the Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P)
  2. Run "Enable Custom UI Style"
  3. Click "Restart" when prompted

VS Code will relaunch. You may see a warning banner saying the installation is corrupt — that's normal, just dismiss it.

4. Activate the theme

  1. Open the Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P)
  2. Run "Preferences: Color Theme"
  3. Select Lust Noir

5. Activate the icon theme

  1. Open the Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P)
  2. Run "Preferences: File Icon Theme"
  3. Select Material Icon Theme

What's included

  • Deep #141418 ash background
  • Orchid and rose-pink (#DA70D6 / #ffaffc) accents
  • Gradient cursor (pink → orchid)
  • Centered command palette
  • Hidden scrollbars and decorative borders
  • Configured for JetBrains Mono with full ligature set
  • Italic comments
  • Bracket pair colorization

Without the fonts or Custom UI Style

The theme works without them — you'll get the colors and syntax highlighting. But the gradient cursor, centered palette, and UI tweaks only activate when Custom UI Style is installed and enabled.
