DORA Metrics Dashboard

Stop guessing. Start measuring. Ship better software.

DORA Metrics Dashboard brings the industry-gold-standard engineering metrics directly into Azure DevOps — no data exports, no third-party integrations, no extra logins. Just clear, actionable insight into how your engineering team is performing, right where you already work.

Why DORA Metrics?

The DORA State of DevOps Report — backed by Google and years of research across 33,000+ professionals — identified four metrics that reliably separate elite engineering teams from the rest. These four numbers predict software delivery performance, organizational outcomes, and team wellbeing better than any other indicators known.

Elite teams deploy 208x more frequently than low performers and recover from incidents 2,604x faster. The gap is measurable. Now it's measurable inside your Azure DevOps organization.

The Four Metrics, Explained

🚀 Deployment Frequency

How often your team successfully releases to production. High-frequency deployment is a hallmark of low-risk, iterative delivery. Elite teams deploy multiple times per day.

⏱️ Lead Time for Changes

The time from a code commit to that code running in production. Short lead times mean fast feedback, less risk per release, and a more responsive team. Elite teams achieve this in under one hour.

🔧 Mean Time to Restore (MTTR)

When something goes wrong, how quickly does your team restore service? This measures resilience — not the absence of failure, but the speed of recovery. Elite teams recover in under one hour.

🛡️ Change Failure Rate

What percentage of your deployments cause a production incident? A low change failure rate signals mature testing, review, and deployment practices. Elite teams stay at or below 15%.

What You Get

Instant DORA Classification

Every metric is automatically classified into the four DORA performance bands — Elite, High, Medium, and Low — based on the 2023 State of DevOps benchmarks. Know exactly where your team stands against the global research baseline.

12-Week Trend Charts

Don't just see where you are — see where you're going. Interactive trend charts show week-by-week movement across all four metrics so you can spot regressions early and celebrate real improvement.

Drill-Down Detail

Click into any metric to see the individual deployments or incidents driving your numbers. Identify your slowest releases, longest-running incidents, and highest-risk deploys at a glance.

Zero Configuration

DORA Metrics Dashboard reads directly from your existing Azure DevOps data — pipelines, git commits, work items, and releases. No tagging schemas to set up, no data migration, no connectors to configure. Install and see your metrics within minutes.

Built for Azure DevOps

Unlike generic DevOps analytics tools that bolt on ADO as an afterthought, this extension lives natively inside your ADO project. Your data never leaves your organization. Works with Azure DevOps Services and Azure DevOps Server 2019+.

Performance Bands at a Glance

Band Deployment Frequency Lead Time MTTR Change Failure Rate
🟢 Elite Multiple/day < 1 hour < 1 hour 0–15%
🔵 High Weekly < 1 week < 1 day 16–30%
🟡 Medium Monthly 1–6 months < 1 week 31–45%
🔴 Low < Monthly > 6 months > 1 week > 45%

Thresholds based on the DORA 2023 State of DevOps Report.

How It Works

DORA Metrics Dashboard collects data from three Azure DevOps APIs you already use:

  • Azure Pipelines → Deployment Frequency and Lead Time
  • Git Commits → Precise lead time calculation (first commit → production)
  • Work Items → MTTR and Change Failure Rate via P1/P2 bugs

Production deployments are automatically identified from builds targeting your main or master branch, or tagged with production. Incidents are detected from Priority 1 and Priority 2 bugs — or any work item tagged dora-incident for custom workflows.

Getting Started

  1. Install the extension into your Azure DevOps organization
  2. Open any project → find DORA Metrics in the left navigation
  3. Select your date range (7, 30, or 90 days)
  4. Read your metrics — no setup required

For best results, ensure your production pipelines target the main or master branch, and log incidents as Priority 1 or Priority 2 bugs in Azure Boards.
