Qlik Code — VS Code Extension
Work with Qlik Cloud scripts and apps directly from Visual Studio Code.
Qlik Code brings together Qlik Script editor support, Qlik Cloud sign-in, script synchronization, reload workflows, and data-model exploration in a single extension.
Getting Started
- Install the extension from the VS Code Marketplace
- Open the Qlik Cloud view in the Activity Bar
- Sign in with your Qlik Cloud tenant URL — sign-in opens in your browser
- Browse spaces and apps, then open a script or download a working copy to start editing
A Qlik Cloud tenant is required — see Requirements below.
What you can do with Qlik Code
- Edit Qlik Script in VS Code — open
.qvs files with syntax highlighting and language support
- Sign in to Qlik Cloud — connect to your tenant with the built-in browser-based OAuth flow
- Browse spaces and apps — explore available Qlik Cloud resources from the Explorer sidebar
- Work locally or against Qlik Cloud — open cloud-backed scripts directly or download local working copies
- Synchronize scripts safely — pull updates from Qlik Cloud, push local changes back, and handle conflicts when both sides changed
- Reload and preview apps — reload apps, monitor progress, and validate local changes through preview workflows
- Explore the data model — open an interactive data model diagram and inspect table data in the Data Preview panel
- Accelerate script authoring — insert reusable scripts, add content from Data Catalog, and generate load script from data connections
How authentication works
Qlik Code uses Qlik Cloud OAuth.
- Open the Qlik Cloud view in the VS Code sidebar
- Enter your Qlik Cloud tenant URL
- Select Continue
- Complete sign-in in your browser
- Return to VS Code to start browsing spaces and apps
Depending on your tenant setup, a Tenant Administrator may need to approve the extension for the tenant the first time it is used.
Common ways to work
Open a cloud-backed script
Use the Qlik Cloud tree in the Explorer to open a script directly from Qlik Cloud.
Download a working copy
Download a script into your workspace when you want to edit locally, review changes, and choose when to push updates back to Qlik Cloud.
Push and pull changes
- Update from Qlik Cloud pulls the latest remote script into a bound local file
- Push to origin app uploads local changes back to the original Qlik Cloud app
- If both local and remote changed, the extension protects you from accidental overwrite and guides you through conflict resolution
Reload and validate
- Reload a Qlik Cloud app directly from VS Code
- Use preview workflows to validate local changes before updating the origin app
- Open the app, app overview, data load editor, or data model viewer in your browser when needed
Key features
Qlik Cloud browser
After sign-in, the extension shows your Qlik Cloud spaces and apps in the Explorer sidebar. You can refresh, filter, and open resources without leaving VS Code.
Working copies and bindings
Local working copies can be bound to Qlik Cloud resources so the extension can track where the file came from and offer the relevant sync actions.
Data Model Viewer and Data Preview
The extension can visualize an app's data model and show table-level preview data to support troubleshooting and analysis.
Script reuse and load generation
Use Include Scripts, Add from Data Catalog, and Select Data to insert script content without switching away from the editor.
Requirements
