That’s why PromptDC was created. It enhances your prompts with one keyboard click, without leaving VS Code. Just write your prompt in the chat and press your keyboard shortcut.

How Enhance Works

Based on the AI model you're using (Copilot, Cline, Codex, Gemini Code Assist, Claude Code, or Kilo Code), our extension reads its system prompt, understands how that model operates, and then refines and restructures your input to make it more understandable. This helps the model generate better, more accurate results.

Extension Settings

The settings are located at the bottom right of VS Code, below the chat (status bar). If you have hidden the status bar, you won't be able to see it. To make it visible, enable the status bar from Customize Layout.

Language Settings

Choose your preferred response language for enhanced prompts:

• English (default): Get enhanced prompts in English
• Chinese: Get enhanced prompts in Chinese (中文)
• Spanish: Get enhanced prompts in Spanish (Español)
• Portuguese: Get enhanced prompts in Portuguese (Português)
• Korean: Get enhanced prompts in Korean (한국어)
• Indian: Get enhanced prompts in Hindi (हिन्दी)
• Russian: Get enhanced prompts in Russian (Русский)
• Vietnamese: Get enhanced prompts in Vietnamese (Tiếng Việt)
• Czech: Get enhanced prompts in Czech (Čeština)

Format Settings

Choose your preferred response format for enhanced prompts:

• Regular (default): Standard text format with proper structure
• JSON: Enhanced prompts formatted as valid JSON
• XML: Enhanced prompts formatted as valid XML
• YAML: Enhanced prompts formatted as valid YAML

Enhancement Mode (NEW in v4.0.0!)

Choose how your prompts are enhanced:

• Simple (default): Returns a clear, detailed paragraph without section headers. Perfect for quick, natural prompts.
• Structured: Returns full structure with ROLE, OBJECTIVE, SUCCESS CRITERIA, SCOPE, PLAN, IMPLEMENTATION RULES, and DELIVERABLES. Ideal for complex tasks requiring detailed specifications.

Simple Mode Example:

Build a responsive portfolio website for a web designer. Include home,
portfolio gallery with project thumbnails, about page with bio and skills,
and contact page with a form. Use React with TypeScript, implement mobile-first
design, and ensure all images are lazy-loaded for performance.

Structured Mode Example:

ROLE: Senior Frontend Engineer

OBJECTIVE: Build a portfolio website for a web designer

SUCCESS CRITERIA:
- Responsive design across all devices
- Portfolio gallery with filtering
- Contact form with validation

SCOPE:
- In scope: Frontend implementation, responsive design
- Out of scope: Backend, database, authentication

PLAN:
1. Detect & orient: Identify stack and project structure
2. Design approach: Component hierarchy and routing
3. Implement: Build pages and components
...

Custom Enhancement Prompt (NEW in v4.0.0!)

Override the default enhancement logic with your own custom prompt template. This gives you full control over how your prompts are enhanced.

Use cases:

• Use your company's specific prompt template
• Add custom instructions for your workflow
• Integrate with specific coding standards

When set, your custom prompt completely replaces PromptDC's default enhancement. The user's original input is automatically appended to your custom prompt.

Always Include Instructions (NEW in v4.0.0!)

Add instructions that are automatically appended to EVERY enhanced prompt output. These instructions are added at the end of each enhanced prompt.

Use cases:

• "Always check .mdc rule files in the repo"
• "Include timestamp in your response"
• "Follow the coding standards at /docs/standards.md"
• "Remember to run tests after making changes"

These settings allow you to customize how PromptDC enhances your prompts based on your specific needs and preferred output format.
