Extension for Visual Studio Code

⚠️ Pre-Release Beta — This extension is currently in pre-release beta. Features and behavior may change, and you may encounter bugs. We welcome your feedback at contact@processfeedback.org.

Process Feedback enables students, teachers, and professionals to see the coding process or AI use, and to discuss how the coding process can be improved.

📌 What is the Process Feedback extension?
The Process Feedback extension is for students, teachers, and professionals. It tracks the edit history of your code files in VS Code and turns that history into a coding process report. In the process report, you can explore how code evolved over time, when executions happened, typing patterns, break frequency, and time spent across different files and sessions.

✨ Key Features
➛ Tracks revisions across all files in your workspace ➛ Records code executions from terminals, debug sessions, and tasks ➛ Shows coding timeline ➛ Generates coding process report PDF

👤 Who is it for?
The extension is designed for students to self-reflect on their coding process, for teachers to understand how students approach programming assignments, and for professionals who want insight into their own development workflow.

⚙️ How does it work?
The extension quietly runs in the background while you code, saving snapshots of your work at regular intervals. It also listens for terminal and debug activity. All of this is compiled into an interactive process report you can download and share.

🛠 How do I use the extension?
➛ Step 1: Install the extension from the VS Code Marketplace ➛ Step 2: Open any project folder in VS Code — tracking starts automatically ➛ Step 3: Open the Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P / Cmd+Shift+P) and run Process Feedback: Coding Process Report to export your report ➛ Step 4: Optionally, run Process Feedback: Edit Profile Settings to configure your name or other profile details

🔗 How to share the coding process report?
➛ Download: Use the Command Palette to run Process Feedback: Coding Process Report and save your process data locally. ➛ Share: Upload or send the downloaded file to your instructor or collaborators.

📚 How can teachers integrate it into a course?
Please visit www.processfeedback.org for step-by-step instructions on how to integrate the extension into your course.

⚠️ Limitations
The extension is not well-tested with very large workspaces containing hundreds of files or extremely long coding sessions. If you run into issues, please email us at contact@processfeedback.org.

🔒 Privacy Policy
➛ By default, this extension stores all data locally on your device and does not transmit anything externally. ➛ Data is only shared when you explicitly choose to download and send your process report to another person.

📜 Terms and Conditions
By installing the extension, you agree to the terms and conditions at https://processfeedback.org/terms/.
