JKS Viewer 🛡️
JKS Viewer is a clean, secure, and developer-friendly extension for Visual Studio Code designed to inspect Java Keystore (.jks) and .keystore certificate files directly inside your editor. No need to memorize complex keytool CLI commands—simply open your keystore file and inspect all aliases, certificate validity, owners, issuers, and security fingerprints at a glance.

🚀 Why JKS Viewer?
Working with Android signing keys, Java certificates, or SSL keystores often requires running repetitive terminal commands. JKS Viewer streamlines your workflow by embedding a native Custom Editor inside VS Code that safely parses your keystore and presents the output in a visual, theme-aware UI.
✨ Features
- Native Custom Editor Integration: Automatically opens when clicking any
.jks or .keystore file.
- Complete Keystore Details: Displays key aliases, validity dates, certificate owners, issuers, and key fingerprints.
- One-Click Copying: Dedicated copy buttons for SHA-1, SHA-256, and MD5 fingerprints that copy directly to your system clipboard.
- Seamless Password Prompting: Safely prompts for your keystore password with masked input.
- In-App Password Retry: Includes an inline "Enter Password Again" action if you enter an incorrect password or cancel, eliminating the need to close and reopen the tab.
- VS Code Theme Adaptive: Matches your light or dark VS Code theme automatically.
🛠️ How to Use
- Install the extension.
- In the Explorer view, click on any
.jks or .keystore file.
- Enter your keystore password when prompted at the top of the editor.
- View all certificate aliases and copy required SHA fingerprints with a single click!
Prerequisite: Ensure Java JDK / JRE (keytool) is installed and available in your system's PATH.

🏗️ Project Structure
The project is structured for high performance and strict execution safety:
extension.js: Registers the vscode.CustomEditorProvider, handles safe background execution via execFile, and processes native clipboard interactions.
package.json: Configures activation events, custom editor contributions, and extension metadata.
📜 Stability & Security
- Official Webview & Custom Editor APIs: Built using official VS Code APIs to ensure future compatibility.
- Command Injection Prevention: Uses safe argument array execution (
execFile) to securely handle keystore paths and passwords containing special characters.
- No Password Persistence: Your keystore password is processed in-memory for the single command call and is never saved to disk or telemetry.
