OhLED Themes (142-in-1)
142 monochrome colour themes for Visual Studio Code. Each theme draws the
whole interface, the editor and the terminal with a single colour on a pure
black background, in the style of classic CRT monitors: black pixels stay
off on an OLED display, and everything else is that one colour at a few
levels of brightness.

Features
- One colour per theme: every interface and syntax colour is derived from it.
- Syntax highlighting by brightness and weight instead of hue: comments and
keywords are dimmed, the names of functions, types and tags are bold.
- Dimmed text keeps a contrast of at least 3:1 against the background in
every theme, line numbers at least 2:1.
- The integrated terminal shows the ANSI colours as brightness levels of the
same colour.
Install
The extension identifier is ophuscado.ohled-themes.
- In VS Code, open the Extensions view, search for
OhLED Themes and select
Install, or
- open Quick Open (
Ctrl+P, Cmd+P on macOS) and run
ext install ophuscado.ohled-themes, or
- from a shell:
code --install-extension ophuscado.ohled-themes.
Then open the Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P, Cmd+Shift+P on macOS), run
Preferences: Color Theme and pick a theme. The same choice in
settings.json:
{ "workbench.colorTheme": "OhLED_Green" }
Themes
A theme is listed in the picker as OhLED_ followed by its name below, for
example OhLED_AliceBlue. The background is always #000000.

Build from source
Node.js 22 or later is required.
npm ci
npm run build # themes/*.json, contributes.themes and the list above
npm run package # builds, then writes ohled-themes-<version>.vsix
config.themes in package.json maps each theme name to its colour.
src/crt.js is the template that derives a full theme from one colour.
src/build.js generates one file per theme and keeps package.json and
the list in this file in step with config.themes.
To add or change a theme, edit config.themes and run npm run build.
