Codex Partner

Codex Partner is a lightweight VS Code extension that turns workspace files, directories, and selected text into context references you can paste into the official Codex VS Code extension chat.

Features

• Copy a selected file range from the editor context menu or Code Action; use Ctrl+Alt+C to add it to a visible prompt-notes draft.
• Copy a file or directory reference from the Explorer context menu.
• Search workspace files and directories from one Quick Pick, with recently used references shown first.
• Open the dedicated Codex Partner Activity Bar view to keep local prompt notes without creating or sending a Codex conversation.
• Resize the prompt composer from its top edge and open Codex Partner keyboard shortcut settings directly from the panel.
• Keep copied references workspace-relative. The extension never copies selected source text or reads Codex credentials.
• Follow the VS Code display language across commands and the prompt-notes panel: English is the default, with Simplified Chinese available for zh-cn.

Usage

1. Select text in an editor, then choose Copy Codex file line reference from the lightbulb or context menu.
2. Right-click a file or directory in the Explorer and choose the matching copy command.
3. Run Codex Partner: Search and copy reference to find a file, directory, or parent path.
4. Click the Codex Partner Activity Bar icon to open the local prompt-notes panel.
5. Paste copied references or saved notes into the official Codex extension chat when needed.

Keyboard shortcuts

• Ctrl+Alt+C: Add a file and line reference to the visible Codex Partner draft; copy it when the panel is closed.
• Ctrl+Alt+F: Copy a reference for the current file when there is no selection.
• Ctrl+Alt+R: Search workspace files or directories and copy the selected reference.

Search for Codex Partner in Keyboard Shortcuts to change or disable the default shortcuts.
