PingMe

Friendly reminders, break timers, and lightweight to-dos—right inside VS Code.

PingMe helps you keep small tasks and breaks visible while you work. Create one-time reminders, schedule recurring screen-time breaks, and track to-dos from the PingMe Activity Bar.

Features

One-time reminders

  • Create reminders with a message and delay.
  • Choose a sound and an animated visual: an airplane with a banner, a warning poster, or a hungry frog.
  • Customize an existing reminder's sound, animation, and banner style.
  • Activate, deactivate, or delete reminders from the Reminders view.
  • Reminders that become due together are presented one at a time.

When a reminder is due, PingMe opens its animation in a temporary editor tab. If VS Code blocks automatic audio playback, use the Play sound button in the tab.

Screen Time breaks

  • Set up recurring break reminders with a message, interval, and sound.
  • Pause, resume, or delete an interval from the Screen Time view.
  • Active reminders repeat at the selected interval until paused or deleted.

To-dos

  • Add and edit tasks with a title and due date.
  • Track each task as To do, In progress, or Done.
  • Keep to-do data separate from reminders and screen-time intervals.

Getting started

  1. Install PingMe from the Visual Studio Marketplace, or install a .vsix package using Extensions: Install from VSIX... in VS Code.
  2. Select the PingMe icon in the Activity Bar.
  3. Use the Reminders, Screen Time, and To-dos views to manage your items.

To create a reminder or screen-time interval, select the add button in the corresponding view title bar. To create a to-do, select Add to-do in the To-dos view. Right-click a reminder to customize it.

You can also open the Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows/Linux, Cmd+Shift+P on macOS) and run PingMe: Add Reminder or PingMe: Add Screen Time Interval.

Compatibility

PingMe requires Visual Studio Code 1.140.0 or later.

Data and privacy

Reminders, screen-time intervals, and to-dos are stored in VS Code's extension global state and restored when the extension starts. PingMe does not require an external account to use these features.

Development

To build and run PingMe from source:

npm install
npm run compile

Open the project in VS Code and press F5 to launch an Extension Development Host. Before submitting changes, run:

npm run lint
