Setting Up the Session Key

After installing the CodeTracker VS Code extension, you need to configure your session key to start tracking coding activity. Follow these steps:

1. Open VS Code Settings

• Windows/Linux: Press Ctrl + Shift + P
• Mac: Press Cmd + Shift + P

Type "Preferences: Open Settings (UI)" and select it.

2. Enter the Session Key you received from the CodeTracker application

• In the Settings UI, search for "codingTimeTracker".
• Locate the "Session Key" field.
• Enter your unique session key provided by the CodeTrack application.
• Press Enter to save.

3. Using the Command Palette

Alternatively, you can set the session key using the Command Palette:

• Windows/Linux: Press Ctrl + Shift + P
• Mac: Press Cmd + Shift + P

Type "CodeTracker: Enter Session Key" and select it.

Enter your session key and press Enter.

4. Verify Session Key

• Open the Output Panel (Ctrl + Shift + U or Cmd + Shift + U on Mac).
• Select CodeTrackerExtension in the dropdown.
• If the session key is set correctly, you will see a confirmation message.

5. Start Coding

Once the session key is configured, CodeTracker will automatically track your coding activity and send data to the backend.

6. Updating the Session Key

If you need to update the session key later:

• Repeat Step 3 using the Command Palette.
• Or, go to VS Code settings and modify the session key manually.

7. Troubleshooting

• If tracking is not working, ensure the session key is entered correctly.
• Check the Output Panel for error messages.
• Restart VS Code if the session key update doesn't take effect.
