Git Giggles 🎬

A little VS Code extension that shows a random fun image in the sidebar whenever you do something in git. It's just here to lighten the mood while you work.

Staged nothing and tried to commit? You get an image. Pushed to main? Another one. Merge conflict? Here's a picture to soften the blow. No captions, no lectures — just a random image that fits the moment.

Install

Search Git Giggles in the Extensions panel, then open the 😊 icon in the activity bar. That's it — no setup needed.

When an image shows up

• You have changes but haven't staged anything
• You push to main / master
• You force push
• A merge conflict appears
• A merge finishes cleanly
• Your working tree becomes clean
• You delete a branch
• You commit late at night
• You do a hard reset / discard changes

Each situation has several images and picks one at random, so it stays fresh. When nothing's happening, the sidebar just rotates through a few images on its own.

There's also a short cooldown per situation, so a rebase or a long night of commits won't spam the same image over and over.

Settings

• gitGiggles.enabled — turn it on or off (default: on)
• gitGiggles.autoCloseSeconds — how long an image stays before going back to idle (default: 5)
• gitGiggles.revealSidebar — auto-open the sidebar when an image fires (default: off)

Requirements

VS Code 1.75 or newer with the built-in Git extension (on by default). Also works in Cursor, Windsurf, and VSCodium.
