Git Giggles 🎬

Your git workflow, roasted in Hinglish and Urdu.

Forgot to stage? Ruko zara, sabar karo. Pushing straight to main? Bade harami ho beta. Committing at 3 AM again? So ja beta, warna Gabbar aa jayega.

Git Giggles watches your repo through VS Code's built-in Git extension and drops a desi meme in the sidebar the moment you do something worth roasting. No configuration needed — install it, open a repo, and get on with your questionable commit habits.

Install

Search Git Giggles in the Extensions panel, or:

ext install Nimra-Zahoor.git-giggles

Then open the 🎬 icon in the activity bar. That's it.

What gets you roasted

Situation The verdict
Unstaged changes, nothing staged Ruko zara, sabar karo
Push to main/master Direct main pe? Bade harami ho beta
Force push Tumse na ho payega
Merge conflict appears Yeh conflict tumhare baap ka hai?
Clean merge, or a conflict resolved Wah bhai wah!
Working tree goes clean Ekdum jhakaas!
Branch deleted RIP branch
Commit in the late-night window So ja beta, warna Gabbar aa jayega
Hard reset / discard Sab kuch mita do

Every situation ships multiple images and picks one at random, so the same roast doesn't get stale. The idle card rotates through seven images too.

Force push detection is the real thing, not a guess: the extension snapshots every remote-tracking ref and uses git merge-base --is-ancestor to catch one moving non-fast-forward — the fingerprint of rewritten remote history.

And there's a 30-second cooldown per situation, so a rebase or a twelve-commit night won't fire the same meme over and over.

Settings

Setting Default What it does
gitGiggles.enabled true Turn the popups on or off.
gitGiggles.language hinglish Caption flavour — hinglish or urdu.
gitGiggles.autoCloseSeconds 5 How long a meme stays before fading back to the idle card. 0 keeps it until the next one.
gitGiggles.revealSidebar true Auto-reveal the sidebar when a meme fires.
gitGiggles.lateNightStart 0 Hour (0–23) the late-night roast starts.
gitGiggles.lateNightEnd 4 Hour (0–23) it stops. Wraps past midnight, so 22–4 is 10 PM to 4 AM. Set both equal to disable.

Requirements

VS Code 1.75 or newer, and the built-in Git extension enabled (it is by default). Also runs on VS Code-compatible editors — Cursor, Windsurf, VSCodium, Gitpod — via Open VSX.

A note on the images

The shipped memes are stills from Hindi films. They are not covered by this project's MIT license, which applies to the source code only. They're included here under a fair-use reading for parody; if you fork or redistribute this, swap in artwork you have the rights to.
